Another tournament, another title for the Putnam County girls basketball team.
The Lady Panthers rolled past Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn 69-33 Saturday to repeat as champions at the Princeville Girls Holiday Tournament.
It’s the second holiday title this year for PC (15-1), which opened the season by winning Princeton’s Tigresses Holiday Tournament.
In Saturday’s tournament-clinching win, Daniela Pavlovich scored 18 points, while Venessa and Allison Voss both added 11 points for PC, which led 13-6 after the first quarter and broke open the game with a 28-point second quarter.
Marquette 48, Ashton-Franklin Center 40
Kendall Kaufmann scored a game-high 24 points as the Crusaders earned the win in the third-place game Saturday at the Amboy Holiday Tournament.
Cassidy Murphy added 12 points for MA (9-6), and both Kaufmann and Murphy were named to the all-tournament team.
Monmouth-Roseville 45, Bureau Valley 26
The Storm struggled to hang with the Titans as BV scored just six points in the second quarter and seven total points in the second half and, in doing so, lost their chance to play for the title.
The loss by the Storm created a three-way 3-1 tie atop the pool between BV, M-R and Rockridge. Rockridge won the pool as it allowed 164 points in pool play, while M-R finished second with 170 points allowed. BV allowed 179 points.
In Saturday’s game, Helena ÓskÁrnadóttir scored a team-high seven points for BV (7-7), which will play Galva at 4:30 today for fifth place.
La Salle-Peru 45, Joliet Catholic 44
Cavalier sophomore Brady Huebbe made the go-ahead layup with 1.4 seconds to play and — following a JCA timeout — the Hilltoppers missed the game-winning three-fourths-court 3-point shot to give L-P the win Saturday at the Romeoville Christmas Classic.
Huebbe finished with 13 points, six rebounds and a steal for the Cavs, while Noah Lamboley added nine points, six rebounds and four assists.
L-P (6-4) will play for the consolation championship at 5 p.m. today against Plainfield Central.
Bureau Valley 69, Peoria Heights 61
The Storm ended pool play with a victory Saturday at Erie’s Warkins Memorial Cardinal Classic.
BV finished 2-2 and third in the pool and will play at 7:30 tonight against Knoxville.
Fieldcrest went 1-1 Saturday to finish seventh in the State Farm Classic.
The Knights started their day with a 52-51 loss to Quincy Notre Dame in Bloomington.
Fieldcrest trailed 47-32 after three quarters but outscored QND 19-5 in the fourth quarter. However, it wasn’t enough as the Knights were unable to prevail.
Grant Jochums scored a team-high 16 points for Fieldcrest.
In the seventh-place game, the Knights topped Heart of Illinois Conference rival El Paso-Gridley 51-47 in Normal.
Down 15-11 after the first quarter, Fieldcrest outscored the Titans 16-9 in the second quarter to take a lead it never gave back.
Matthew Modro and Drew Barth both scored a game-high 13 points for the Knights.
At La Salle
The Cavaliers went 2-1 in Saturday’s five-team home dual in La Salle.
The Cavs topped Rochelle 61-9 and beat Rockford Boylan 63-12 sandwiched around a 44-28 loss to East Peoria.
L-P’s 113-pound senior Riley Sweetland and 152-pound senior Alec Freschi each won all three of their matches, while earning a pair of wins were Max Kurkowski, Collin Groleau, Matt Cummings, Nick Piano and Dave Hoefke.
