Volleyball All-Area Teams


Sports Staff




First Team
Elivia Ambler
, Mendota
Year: Senior
Position: Libero
Season highlights: One of Ambler’s main accomplishments this season was her versatility to switch to libero five matches into the year after playing three years of varsity volleyball at setter. Her 5 digs per set were third in the area. Ambler was voted All-Big Northern Conference West Division.

Taylor Gibson, La Salle-Peru
Year: Sophomore
Position: Outside hitter
Season highlights: The hard hitting Lady Cav put down a team-leading 280 kills, which was third in the area at 3.2 per set. She also tied for the area lead in aces (0.8) and was second in points (4.4). Gibson was second on the team in digs (2.4) and was a unanimous All-NIB 12 West Division pick.

Paige Griffith, Putnam County
Year: Junior
Position: Setter
Season highlights: Griffith was the definition of a do-it-all player  for the Lady Panthers. She led Putnam County in points and aces, was third in digs and fourth in kills. Griffith finished in the top 10 in the area in points, aces, assists and digs. She was a First-Team All-Tri-County Conference selection.

Michelle Kelly, Princeton
Year: Senior
Position: Setter
Season highlights: With Kelly at the helm of the offense, the Tigresses finished 28-8 overall and 11-1 in the Three Rivers Conference South Division. She was second in the area with 750 assists (9.3 per set). She finished her career top five in school history in points, assists and digs.

Katie Olson, La Salle-Peru
Year: Senior
Position: Setter
Season highlights: The 2013 NT Player of the Year assisted the Lady Cavs to the Class 3A state final to highlight a stellar season and career. She led the area in points (4.6 per set) and points (9.7). Olson was named NIB 12 West Division MVP and was picked to play in an all-star game at WheatonâCollege.

Kaitlyn Petersen, Fieldcrest
Year: Senior
Position: Outside hitter
Season highlights: Fieldcrest won its first sectional in a female sport and first super-sectional in school history — boys or girls — and finished fourth in Class 2A with help from the heavy hand of Petersen. She completed the year with the highest overall number of kills in the area (390) and was second in kills per set (3.3).

Second Team
Brooke Carroll, Mendota
Year: Junior
Position: Setter
Season highlights: Once Elivia Ambler was moved to libero, Carroll took over as the sole setter for the Spikers. The junior made the position hers as she finished fourth in the area in assists (7.2 per set). Carroll also led the team in points (162) and aces (36).

Taylor Erjasvek, Putnam County
Year: Senior
Position: Middle hitter
Season highlights: The intimidating middle hitter finished sixth in the area with 2.9 kills per set. Erjasvek led PC in blocks (0.6) as she helped the LadyâPanthers to Tri-County Conference regular season and tournament titles. She was first-team all-conference in the TCC.

Rachel Hunt
Year: Senior
Position: Middle hitter
Season highlights: A large part of the complete volleyball package known as the Lady Cavs was blocking and offense and Hunt played a key role as she tied for second in the area with 0.8 blocks per set. She also contributed 1.9 kills per set and was fifth in the area in points (3.3).

Kendall Kaufmann
Year: Junior
Position: Outside hitter
Season highlights: The Lady Crusaders biggest threat to score on a kill or perform in the back row was Kaufmann. The multi-talented player dished out and received the heavy hitting as she finished fourth in the area with 3.1 kills per set and 10th with 3.3 digs per set. 

Shana Puetz, La Salle-Peru
Year: Junior
Position: Outside hitter
Season highlights: Contributing in any way possible was the name of Puetz's game in the 2013 season. She was third in the area at 3.6 points per set, was second on the team with 52 aces and 192 kills, and finished third on the Lady Cavs roster with 207 digs.

Haley Ruestman, Fieldcrest
Year: Senior
Position: Outside hitter
Season highlights: Ruestman went out with a bang for the Lady Knights. She was named to the Heart of Illinois Conference All-Conference Second Team, finished seventh in the area with 2.8 kills per set. Her 196 digs were a team-high and helped FHS place fourth inâClass 2A.

Third Team
Shiela Browning, LaMoille-Ohio
Year: Senior
Position: Middle hitter
Season highlights: Browning was the kill queen this season as she smacked an area-best 3.6 kills per set for 233 kills. She helped LaMoille-Ohio in other areas also as she finished the season with 112 points, 36 aces and 15 blocks. She was named All-Little Ten Conference.

Tessa Holland, Fieldcrest
Year: Junior
Position: Middle hitter
Season highlights: The Lady Knights’ best season in school history has to be accredited to Holland as well as Kaitlyn Petersen and Haley Ruestman. The junior was fifth in the area in kills (3 per set) and tied for second in blocks (0.8). She was voted All-Heart of Illinois Conference.

Morgan King, St. Bede
Year: Senior
Position: Libero
Season highlights: After taking the court as a setter for the first two years of her career, the Lady Bruin transitioned nicely to the libero position. She led the area in digs (6 per set) and set school records for season (477) and career (956) digs. She was All-Three Rivers Conference South.

Sydney Lebahn, Bureau Valley
Year: Junior
Position: Setter
Season highlights: The third-year varsity starter came up big for BV this season. She was named to the Three Rivers Conference North Division First Team behind her wide skill set. Lebahn was third in the area in assists (7.3 per set) and second on the team in points and aces.

Kenzie Rombach, Ottawa
Year: Junior
Position: Middle hitter
Season highlights: Ottawa's 19-16-1 winning record began with the Lady Pirates’ skilled player in the middle. Rombach was top 10 in the area in both kills per set with 2.8 and blocks per set with 0.7. She finished the season with 227 kills and 61 blocks.

Abby Turczyn, La Salle-Peru
Year: Senior
Position: Libero
Season highlights: Turczyn had no fear of injury as she put her body on the line numerous times to get a dig or help her team out of a bind. She was fourth in the area in points with 3.5 per set and ninth in digs with 3.4 per set. Turczyn was named All-NIB 12 West Division.
