The first day of the Oregon Tip-Off Tournament featured season openers for both the Mendota and the Hall girls basketball.
Mendota defeated Milledgeville 50-25 and Hall lost 72-43 to Prophetstown.
The Lady Trojans were led by junior forward/center Amy Devitt’s 14 points. She was helped by juniors Abby Bromenschenkel’s 10 points and Ally Bromenschenkel’s seven points.
Mendota scored 25 points in the first quarter to grab an early lead Milledgeville couldn’t come back from before scoring 12 and 11 in the second and third quarters.
The Lady Red Devils got off to a slow start as they trailed 20-12 after the first quarter. They never held a lead, but scored in double-digits in three of the four quarters and scored nine in the second.
Junior Emily Hoscheid led the way with 14 points and Ellen Herrman scored 13.
IVCC 65, Lincoln College 42
IVCC finished with four players in double-digit scoring to defeat Lincoln College 65-42 in the first game of the IVCC double header Wednesday in Oglesby.
Sophomore center Kayla MacDavitt, a St. Bede graduate, led the team with 12 points, CJ Rhodes, a graduate of Princeton, and Mia Porter, a graduate of La Salle-Peru, contributed 11 apiece, while Mendota alum Karly Near added 10 points.
The Ottawa duo of Marquette’s Jessica Jessen and Ottawa’s Kara Kistenfeger chipped in eight and seven points.
IVCC was up 34-23 at half and kept the edge in the second half for the 13-point victory.
Illinois Wesleyan JV 74, IVCC 61
The Eagles fell to the Illinois Wesleyan junior varsity team 74-61 to conclude Wednesday’s hoop action at IVCC.
Freshman Quenton Lowe led the team with 15 points on seven made field goals. Sophomore guard Corey McCrary added 13 points and freshman Torrance Johnson pitched in 12 points.
Mendota alum and IVCC sophomore Ross Arteaga hit two 3-point field goals to help him finish with nine points.
The Eagles trailed by four, 28-24 at the end of the first half, but were outscored 46-37 in the second.
