Area Roundup: L-P volleyball earns conference win

The La Salle-Peru volleyball team remained undefeated with a 25-13, 25-13 victory Tuesday over Geneseo in a Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference West Division road match.

Katie Olson had 24 assists, 11 points and three digs, while Rachel Hunt contributed 11 points and six kills and Taylor Gibson added nine points, six kills and six digs for L-P (14-0, 3-0 NIB 12 West).

Ottawa def. Streator 26-24, 28-26
Kenzie Rombach had 11 kills and two blocks Tuesday as the Lady Pirates outlasted Streator in a Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference West Division match in Ottawa.

Jordan Hayne and Jessica Wignes each put down six kills, while Wignes also had 12 digs and two aces. Emily Hackler added 19 digs for Ottawa (13-8, 2-1 NIB 12 West).

Bureau Valley def. Prophetstown 25-21, 25-27, 25-12
Lindsey Hoffert put down 12 kills, blocked two kill attempts and had five digs Tuesday to help the Storm to a Three Rivers Conference North Division victory in Prophetstown.

Sydney Lebahn contributed 23 assists, while Valerie Reuter added 10 points, nine digs and seven kills for BV (10-3, 6-1 TRC North).

LaMoille-Ohio def. Leland-Earlville 25-11, 25-18
Erin Bennett had seven points, seven assists, two digs and an ace Tuesday to lead the Lady Lions to a Little Ten Conference match in LaMoille.

Shiela Browning contributed six points, five kills, four digs and three aces, while Ragen Forbes added seven digs and five points for L-O (9-4, 3-0 LTC).

Carrissa Miller had nine points and seven assists for the Lady Panthers (3-12-1, 1-2 LTC), while Alexis Maxwell added 10 digs.

Annawan def. Henry 33-31, 25-11
Amanda Kereta had 11 digs, three kills and three aces Tuesday as the Lady Mallards dropped a non-conference match.

Destinee Gonzalez added 12 digs for Henry (3-8), while Kayla Beall had 11 assists.

IVCC def. Black Hawk 20-25, 25-20, 25-7, 26-24
Marquette graduate Jessica Jessen had 25 digs and 14 points Tuesday as the Lady Eagles earned an Arrowhead Conference victory in Kewanee.

Ottawa alumna Lisa Lukkari had 20 assists, 17 digs and an ace, St. Bede graduate Kayla MacDavitt contributed seven blocks and six kills and Sarah Lushina put down 16 kills for IVCC (12-6, 4-1 conference).

At Mendota
The Mendota boys placed two runners in the top 10 on Tuesday en route to victory in a seven-school home meet.

The Trojans scored 50 points to beat Hall (56), Amboy-LaMoille (60), St. Bede (100), Putnam County (109) and Princeton (132). Ohio did not field a full team.

Alex Harriott paced Mendota with a sixth-place finish in 18:56, while teammate Lukas Brandner was 10th in 19:07.

Putnam County’s Noe Flores won the meet in 17:45, just nine seconds ahead of Hall’s Al Baldonado.

Princeton’s Cody Workman was third in 18:34, A-L’s Skylar Wheeler was fourth in 18:41, Ohio’s Johnee Schulte was seventh in 18:59 and St. Bede’s Jake Condon was eighth in 19:02.

In the girls race, A-L’s Megan Brady won in 19:59 to lead the Lady Clippers to victory with 27 points.

Mendota was second with 46 points followed by St. Bede (62) and Princeton (67). Hall, PC and Ohio did not field full teams.

A-L also had Jennifer Popovich (third, 21:38), Erin Hosto (fourth, 22:14) and Kaitlin Boers (eighth, 22:46) in the top 10.

Zoe Mead paced Princeton by placing second in 21:14, while Emily Ross (22:17) and Gillian Brown (22:19) placed fifth and sixth, respectively.

St. Bede’s Laura Sickley was seventh in 22:29, Hall’s Kaylee Olivares was ninth in 22:48 and PC’s Ashlyn Haage was 10th in 23:24.

At Ottawa
Ottawa’s T.J. LeSeure (17:57) and Seamus McGettigan (17:59) placed ninth and 10, respectively, Tuesday at Catlin Park to lead the Pirates to a second-place finish with 50 points.

Sterling won with 29, while Marquette was third with 77, Seneca was fourth with 93 and La Salle-Peru was fifth with 136.

James Weissensel led the Crusaders as he placed second in 17:25.

In the girls race, Ottawa was third with 68 points and Marquette was fourth with 70. Sterling won with 34.

Dani Aurit paced the Lady Crusaders as she placed second in 19:48, while Ottawa’s top finisher was Kaitlyn Sumler, who took eighth in 21:51.

At Deer Grove
St. Bede’s Jarret Olson shot a 41 on Tuesday to help the Bruins to victory in a Three Rivers Conference triangular at Deer Valley Golf Course.

The Bruins carded a 180 to beat Amboy-LaMoille (182) and Prophetstown (194).

Also scoring for St. Bede were Anthony Truckenbrod (44), Joe Dudek (47) and Jack Kunkel (48).

A-L’s Griffin Kozeal was medalist with a 4-over-par 40.

At McNabb
Henry freshman Jake Kennedy carded a medalist 45 on Tuesday to lead the Mallards to a triangular victory at Edgewood Park Golf Club.

The Mallards carded a 198 to beat Annawan-Wethersfield (201) and Putnam County (209).

Christian Dzekunkas had a 48 for Henry, while Greg Cluskey scored a 52 and Jared Smith added a 53.

Joe Mattern and Joe Cyr each shot a 50 to pace PC.

Putnam County 216, Seneca 268
Putnam County’s Stephanie Wilson shot a medalist 48 on Tuesday to lead the Lady Panthers to a non-conference victory at Nettle Creek Country Club in Morris.

Carly Gonet had a 54 for PC, while Kelsey Grosenbach had a 55 and Tara Doyle and Lauren Bauer each added a 59.

Fieldcrest 216, El Paso-Gridley 223
Fieldcrest’s Kourtney Gaspardo and Madison Tjaden each shot a 51 on Tuesday to help the Knights to a Heart of Illinois Conference victory at El Paso Golf Club.

Natalie Fortner had a 55 and Taylor Sullivan added a 59 for Fieldcrest.

Princeton 3, IVC 2
Dylan Schaefer scored two goals in the second half Tuesday to lift the Tigers to a non-conference victory in Chillicothe.

Tyler Marvin gave Princeton (10-2-3) a 1-0 lead with 9:45 left in the first half before the Grey Ghosts scored 15 seconds later.

IVC scored with 33:58 left in the second half before Schaefer scored his two goals in the final 14:53.

Streator 5, La Salle-Peru 3
The Cavaliers dropped a Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference West Division game at Howard Fellows Stadium.

L-P scored three goals in the first half to take a 3-2 halftime lead.

Geneseo 5, Ottawa 1
Luke Winchester scored off a corner kick from Efrain Gutierrez for the Pirates’ lone goal Tuesday in a Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference West Division loss in Ottawa.

The game was tied at halftime.

Geneseo 4, La Salle-Peru 1
Anna Konczak and Katie Wellner earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles for the Lady Cavaliers’ lone victory Tuesday in a Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference loss in Geneseo. L-P is 7-2.

Ottawa 3, Dixon 2
The Lady Pirates had one singles win and two doubles victories Tuesday to pull out a Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference victory in Dixon.

Ottawa’s Molly Angell won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Gertie Barron and Carly Charbonneau earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles and Ashley Backos and Kaitlin Prettyman were 7-6, 4-6, 6-2 victors at No. 3 doubles. Ottawa is 5-2.
