College roundup: Area athletes earn honors

The early-season accolades continue to roll in for area athletes.

Monmouth College’s Lauren Kellen (Jr., Mendota) again earned the Midwest Conference Offensive Performer of the Week honor for women’s soccer Monday after scoring four goals in the Fighting Scots’ two wins over the weekend. It is the second time this season she has earned the award.

She scored two goals in a 4-3 overtime win Saturday against St. Norbert College and also had two goals in a 4-0 win Sunday over Ripon College. She also scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win Sept. 14 over Culver-Stockton College.

Kellen now has a team-leading 12 goals this season, which is second in the Midwest Conference.

Northern Michigan University volleyball player Kalli Herron (Sr., L-P) was named to the Superior Oasis Wildcat Open All-Tournament Team as NMU went 4-0 to win the tournament Sept. 13-14. Herron led the team with 46 kills and also added six blocks, six digs and two aces. She is currently second on the team in kills with 126 and also has 35 digs, 18 blocks, 13 aces and two assists.

Also, Sauk Valley Community College volleyball player Kalli Scheppers (So., Mendota) was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Kankakee Community College Invitational on Sept. 13-14. She had 47 kills for the tournament.

Scheppers leads the team with 226 kills this season and also has 108 digs, 11 blocks, three aces and two assists.

Cross Country
Mount Mercy University’s Liz Mosbach (So., Hall) and T.J. Mosbach (Sr., Hall) both won their respective races Sept. 14 at the Five Season’s Dual Meet with Coe College. Liz finished with a time of 19:11.3, while T.J. clocked in at 21:34.8. Mount Mercy’s Katie Hoffert (Fr., Hall) placed seventh (20:05.3) in the women’s race.
At the Grand View Viking Invitational on Saturday, both Liz and T.J. placed ninth in their races. Liz finished with a time of 20:18, while T.J. had a time of 26:52. Hoffert placed 45th (21:52).

Campbell University’s Evan Darm (Jr., Marquette) placed 21st overall (27:59.27) Saturday at the Big South Conference Preview.

Illinois State University’s Kimi Sanden (So., BV) placed 55th (19:20.25) Sept. 13 at the Country Financial Illinois State Invite. On the men’s side, ISU’s Scott Janusick (RS So., Hall) finished 62nd (27:06.25)

Augustana College’s Lorraine Stamberger (Jr., LaMoille) placed 46th overall (19:52.0) Sept. 13 at the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships. Judson University’s Justine McDowell (Sr., Mendota) placed 79th overall (20:40.3), while teammate Cassie Criminger (Sr., BV) was 116th (22:20.8).

On the men’s side, Lewis University’s James Weissensel (So., Marquette) placed 47th overall (26:17.0).

Dominican University’s Jacquie Wallaert (Fr., Hall) finished 112th (30:04.9) Sept. 6 at the Aurora University Spartan Invitational. She also placed 81st (a personal-best 28:11) at the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcon Invite on Sept. 14.

The University of St. Francis’ Daniela Acamovic (Sr., Hall) placed 230th (21:47.7) Sept. 14 at the Calvin College Knight Invitational. Teammate Joseph Parochetti (Fr., Hall) was 274th (29:46.2) on the men’s side.

The University of Wisconsin’s Ethan Armstrong (RS Sr., Ottawa) led the team with 11 total tackles — 10 solo and one assisted — in a 32-30 loss to Arizona State on Sept. 14. He also had a quarterback hurry Saturday in a 41-10 win over Purdue.

Monmouth College’s Brik Wedekind (Sr., Princeton) was 14-for-24 passing for 231 yards and three touchdowns in a 59-14 win Sept. 14 over Beloit College. He also averaged 47.8 yards per punt on four punts. Teammate Austin Peterson (Sr., BV) had three catches for 28 yards — including a 7-yard touchdown reception — while Ryan Hix (Sr., BV) had one solo and one assisted tackle.

Eureka College’s Jake Bane (Sr., Fieldcrest) had three catches for 29 yards in a 26-9 win over Northwestern (Minn.) on Sept. 14. Teammate Nate Louis (Sr., Henry) had one catch for five yards, while Matt Stevenson (Sr., Fieldcrest) had one solo and two assisted tackles in the win. Alex Anderson (Sr., Henry) also started at center for Eureka.

In a 28-27 loss to Greenville on Saturday, Bane had three catches for 42 yards, while Louis grabbed three catches for 28 yards. Stevenson had six solo and three assisted tackles — including a sack and 2.5 tackles for a loss — while Anderson started at center.

North Central College’s Michael Weidner (Sr., BV) had three solo tackles in a 41-14 win over UW-Stout on Saturday. Weidner also had one solo tackle in a 41-24 win over Wisconsin-La Crosse on Sept. 14.

Wartburg College’s Grant Zimmerman (So., Mendota) averaged 38.4 yards per punt on five punts in a 27-10 win Saturday over Carthage College. He also averaged 36.3 yards per punt on six punts in a 30-17 loss to Bethel University on Sept. 14.

Northwestern University’s C.J. Robbins (So., L-P) had one solo tackle in NU’s 38-17 win Sept. 14 over Western Michigan Sept. 14. He also participated in the Wildcats’ 35-21 win Saturday over Maine.

Illinois College’s Anthony Cook (So., Fieldcrest) had one solo tackle in a 42-13 win Sept. 14 over Grinnell College.

Rockford College’s Jacob Robison (Sr., Princeton) started at left guard in a 34-7 loss Saturday to Olivet Nazarene. He also participated in a 44-33 loss to Loras College on Sept. 14.

Illinois Wesleyan University’s Zach Anderson (Sr., Fieldcrest) started at right tackle in 38-3 win over Alma College on Sept. 14.

St. Ambrose University’s Zack Cinotto (Fr., L-P) participated in a 48-37 win over Taylor on Sept. 14.

The University of St. Francis’ Tad Kubinski (So., Ottawa) participated in a 41-28 win Sept. 14 over Lindenwood University-Belleville.

Sauk Valley Community College’s Brianna Correa (Fr., Mendota) has 226 digs, which is second on the team, to go along with 17 assists, three kills and an ace. She finished with 30 digs in the Kankakee Invitational Sept. 13-14.

Western Illinois University’s Heather Smith (Sr., L-P) has 94 kills, 21 digs, 16 blocks and three assists.

Gustavus Adolphus College’s Kelle Nett (So., Hall) has 120 kills, 34 blocks, 26 digs, a team-high 22 aces and eight assists this season.

Beloit College’s Bethany Stavrakas (So., St. Bede) has 116 digs, 54 kills, 11 assists, 10 blocks and eight aces this season.

North Central College’s Amanda Walker (So., Ottawa) has 62 kills, a team-high 33 blocks, 13 digs, one assist and one ace. Teammate Stephanie Ganz (So., Mendota) has two digs in one set played, while Allie Youngren (Jr., Princeton) has one dig in one set played.

Augustana College’s Hailee Brayton (Jr., St. Bede/IVCC) has 66 kills, 22 digs, a team-high 21 blocks, three assists and three aces.

Roosevelt University’s Emily Bodmer (Sr., Mendota/IVCC) has 90 digs, six aces, six assists and one kill.

MacMurray College’s Brianna Pohl (Sr., Mendota/IVCC) has 51 kills, 36 digs and 10 blocks.

Elmhurst College’s Jessica Suarez (Fr., L-P) has 35 kills, 15 digs and 11 blocks.

Judson University’s Hollie Reppin (Fr., Mendota) has 16 digs, six assists, four aces and one kill.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Sammi Herron (So., L-P) has 15 kills, four blocks and two digs.

Lincoln College’s Taylor Hewitt (So., BV) had 25 digs at the Kaskaskia Triangular on Saturday.

Culver-Stockton College’s Lori Privratsky (Sr., Henry) has two digs in three sets played this season.

Webster University’s Amy Stanke (So., St. Bede) has two digs in one set played this season.

Central College’s Jon Prescott (Jr., Mendota) shot a 1-over-par 71 Sunday after shooting a 79 Saturday to finish tied for 12th with a score of 150 at the University of Dubuque Fall Invitational. Central finished seventh out of 18 teams. He also tied for 36th after shooting a two-round score of 157 (78-79) Sept. 13-14 at the Carthage College (Wis.) Tim Kopka Memorial Tournament.

Illinois Wesleyan University’s Ali Stevenson (Jr., Ottawa) tied for 13th with a two-round score of 168 (87-81) Saturday and Sunday at the Millikin Fall Classic. IWU placed second as a team. She also tied for 34th with a two-round score of 165 (82-83) Sept. 14-15 at the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic and tied for 14th (87) at the Elmhurst College Bluejay Invitational on Sept. 17.

Judson University’s Jordan Twidell (Sr., BV) tied for 38th (80) Sept. 10 at the St. Francis Fall Classic and placed 76th with a two-round score of 183 (91-92) Sept. 16-17 at the Purdue-Calumet Mike Lalaeff Memorial Invitational. He also tied for 71st with a two-round score of 167 (82-85) at the University of Dubuque Invitational over the weekend.

The University of St. Francis’ Lane Barbier (Fr., Ottawa) shot a two-round score of 156 (79-77) Friday and Saturday at the IVCC Invitational. Illinois Central College’s Bobby McBride (Fr., Henry) shot a two-round score of 168 (82-86) at the meet.
Barbier also tied for 48th (82) at the St. Francis Fall Classic on Sept. 10 and tied for 51st with a two-round score of 168 (85-83) at the Bethel College Battle at Blackthorn on Sept. 13-14.

Monmouth College’s Eric Farrell (Sr., Ottawa) tied for 22nd (84) Sept. 19 at the Scot-Vike-Fire Classic. Teammate Evan Bean (So., Putnam County) tied for 25th (85).

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville’s Katie Gregorich (Jr., St. Bede) shot a two-round score of 186 (94-92) Friday and Saturday at the UW-Whitewater Invitational. She also placed 81st with a two-round score of 180 (86-94) Sept. 14-15 at the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic.

Benedictine University’s Bailey Weber (So., Marquette) shot a two-round score of 200 (104-96) Friday and Saturday at the UW-Whitewater Invitational. She also placed 49th (100) Sept. 15 at the Benedictine Invitational and tied for 19th with a season-best round of 89 at the Elmhurst College Bluejay Invitational on Sept. 17.

Monmouth College’s Lauren Becker (Sr., Mendota) had a shot in her team’s 4-3 overtime win against St. Norbert College and had three shots on goal in the 4-0 win over Ripon College. She also played in a 1-0 win over Culver-Stockton.

Illinois Central College’s Bryce Pharmer (Fr., Princeton) scored a goal in the team’s 6-1 win over Southwestern Illinois College on Sunday. Teammate Lexi Marselle (Fr., Princeton) has started every game this season on defense.

The University of St. Francis’ Natalie Conrad (Fr., Ottawa) played in a 5-0 win Sept. 13 over Cincinnati Christian.

Aurora University’s Christy Savellano (Jr., L-P) is 6-5 overall in singles play (5-5 at No. 1 singles and 1-0 at No. 2 singles) and 6-5 at No. 1 doubles this season.

Illinois Wesleyan University’s Aaron Guenther (Sr., Ottawa) went 1-2 in singles play and 0-1 at No. 1 doubles to open the season at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Fall Invitational on Sept. 14. He earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over Millikin’s Emerick Fulton in the consolation bracket.
