Bi-County advances to Junior League Baseball title game

NT Sports Staff

The Bi-County Junior League baseball team will get a second chance at Peru.

In Monday’s District 20 Tournament at Washington Park in Peru, Bi-County beat Spring Valley 8-0 to move into tonight’s 6 p.m. championship, where it will face unbeaten Peru.

Peru beat Bi-County 7-3 on Sunday to advance to today’s title game. Bi-County must beat Peru twice to win the title in the double-elimination tournament, but a win by Peru would give it the district title.

In the 10-11-year-old tournament in Streator, host Streator beat Ottawa National 7-2, while Ottawa American eliminated Bi-County 5-3.

Streator advances to play La Salle at 6 p.m. Wednesday with the winner advancing to the title game.

In tonight’s scheduled action, Ottawa National will play Peru at 6 p.m. in an elimination game, while Ottawa American will meet Spring Valley in an elimination game.

In the 9-10-year-old national sub-district tournament at Oglesby, Ottawa eliminated Utica with a 12-0 victory, while La Salle eliminated Utica with a 15-7 win.

Ottawa and La Salle are scheduled to meet in an elimination game at 8 tonight, while Streator and Oglesby will play at 6 p.m. with the winner advancing to the sub-district title game, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday.

Scores for Monday’s games at the 9-10-year-old American Sub-District Tournament in Ladd were not report, while the first game of the Senior League Softball series in Spring Valley between La Salle and Spring Valley was postponed to today. The teams will play at doubleheader starting at 6 tonight. The if necessary game is at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

In other action in the area, Freeport beat Brookfield 9-3 to win the Little League Softball section tournament title at St. Mary’s Field in La Salle.
