The Spring Valley Little League softball team is a win away from a District 20 championship.
The squad beat Peru 6-4 Thursday at Veterans Park in Peru to advance into Saturday’s 1 p.m. title game.
Spring Valley will play the winner of tonight’s 6 p.m. elimination game between Peru and La Salle.
If Spring Valley wins Saturday or in Sunday’s 1 p.m. if necessary game, it will win the district title.
La Salle stayed alive in the double-elimination tournament Thursday as it beat Mendota 15-12.
Olson, Fusion 17U Black wins title
La Salle-Peru setter and senior to-be Katie Olson and her Fusion 17U Black club volleyball team won its second consecutive AAU Girls Junior National Volleyball championship Tuesday in Orlando.
After winning the AAU national championship, the team will play this weekend in Dallas in the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship. The squad will play three pool play games on Saturday.
IVTT competes at nationals
After the Illinois Valley YMCA Tumbling and Trampoline athletes competed in the state competition in Bourbonnais in April, all 29 IVTT athletes qualified for the national tournament, which was held June 18-22 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
At nationals, Jaidynne Lash placed fourth on double mini, 14th on trampoline and 15th on floor; Cassidy Olsen placed 13th on both double mini and floor; Miley Dolder placed 10th on floor and 15th on double mini; Libby Boyles placed 25th on double, 16th on trampoline and 21st on floor; Kiana Brokaw placed 12th on floor and 20th overall; Ryne Strouss placed eighth on floor, seventh on tramp and 13th on double mini; Cale Strouss placed second in tumbling as well as third on trampoline and double mini; Reena Stevens placed 22nd on double mini, 18th on tramp, seventh on floor; Kiersten Shevokas placed 18th on floor and 23rd on double mini; Chabela Fuentes placed fourth on floor; Jaclyn Brucki placed seventh on trampoline and 20th on floor; Kya Delao placed 19th tramp, 16th on double and mini 12th floor.
