Community Sports Notes: Hall holding volleyball camps

The Hall High School volleyball program is holding two camps this summer.
The grade school camp is July 8-12.

Players in grades 5-6 will have camp from 9-11 a.m., while players in grades 7-8 will have camp from Noon to 2 p.m.

The cost is $50 per player, which includes a T-shirt.

The high school camp is July 15-16.

Freshmen have camp from 9 a.m. to Noon, while sophomores, juniors and seniors have camp from 1-3 p.m.
The cost is $50 per player, which includes a T-shirt.

Tony Bonnell Memorial Golf Outing
The 11th Annual Tony Bonnell Memorial Golf Outing is Saturday at Mendota Golf Club.
There are tee times from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The fee is $15 for club members and $40 for non-members, which includes 18 holes of golf with cart, refreshments, games, snacks and prizes.

A Sip-N-Snack chicken dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $8.

The event benefits the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Bureau County. In the last 10 years, the outing has raised $41,735.

Starved Rock Runners clinics
The Starved Rock Runners club is starting its annual kids and women’s running clinics at 6 p.m. Monday at Baker’s Lake (Airport Road side).

The clinics will be every Monday until Aug. 12.

The kids clinic is for ages 7-18, while the women’s clinic is for females 18-and-over of all abilities.

YMCA tee ball camp
The Illinois Valley YMCA is hosting a tee ball camp from 10-11 a.m. June 17-21.

It is open to boys and girls ages 3-4. The cost is $15 for Y members and $25 for non-members.

Slammers camp
The Joliet Slammers independent minor league baseball team is holding a camp for players in grades K-8 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 24 at Silver Cross Field in Joliet.

Registration forms can be downloaded at and sent to the Slammers front office.
Each camper must wear baseball attire and bring his own glove, bat and spikes.

The camp will be taught by Slammers coaches, including Putnam County coach Dave Garcia (hitting coach) and PC assistant Bill Booker (defense) and Slammers players, including La Salle-Peru graduate Brett Zawacki and Ottawa graduate Corey Kimes.

The cost is $80, which includes a hot dog lunch, four tickets to a Slammers game and Slammers souvenirs.

YMCA basketball camp
The Illinois Valley YMCA is holding basketball camp for boys and girls in grades 1-8 from 10:30 a.m. to Noon on June 24-28.

The cost is $15 for Y members and $25 for non-members.

Bureau, Lee farm bureaus golf outing
The Bureau and Lee County farm bureaus are having their fourth annual golf outing at 9 a.m. June 28 at Hunter’s Ridge Golf Course in Princeton.

Team fees are $200 for basic registration, $225 for super registration and $250 for premium registration. The fee includes 18 holes of golf, half cart and lunch.

Registration is suggested by June 21. Registration after the deadline will be accepted if space is available.

Proceeds will benefit the Bureau and Lee County Farm Bureau’s Ag in the Classroom programs.

Art Sarver 3-Mile Run/Walk
The Second Annual Art Sarver Memorial 3-Mile Run/Walk is at 8 a.m. June 29.

The race starts and ends on Art Sarver Memorial Drive (Trexler Ave.) near the Oglesby Elks Lodge.

Entry forms are available at Oglesby City Hall and online at

The fee is $20 in advance and $25 the day of the race.

The first 500 entrants receive a T-shirt.

The Illinois Valley YMCA is starting a racquetball league open to men and women 18 or older July 1.

Walnut 5K Run/Walk for ALS
The Walnut 5K Run/Walk for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) Research is July 6.

The race begins at Bureau Valley North Junior High.

Registration is at 7 a.m. and the race is at 8 a.m.

Fee is $15 before June 29 and $20 after.

T-shirts will be given to runners who register before June 29.
