Roundup: L-P baseball tops Rochelle

Andres Martinez went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles Tuesday to help the La Salle-Peru baseball team to a 12-5 victory over Rochelle in a Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference crossover game in Rochelle.

Noah Lamboley earned the win for the Cavaliers.

Ottawa 8-5, Geneseo 2-4
Ottawa team swept Geneseo in a Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference West Division doubleheader Tuesday to win the league title outright.

The Pirates won the first game 8-2 before edging the Maple Leafs 5-4 in the second game.

In the first game, Colten Trager had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs, while Michael Hermosillo went 2-for-3 with a triple and three runs.

Jonah Morris went the distance to earn the win, allowing one earned run on four hits with eight strikeouts and three walks.

In the second game, Kevin Scheffler pitched a scoreless seventh to earn the win and executed a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the seventh.

Brazon Wheeler had an RBI triple for the Pirates (20-2, 14-0 NIB 12 West).

Tri-Valley 6, Fieldcrest 5
The No. 3-seeded Lady Knights scored a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning Tuesday to take a one-run lead in a Class 2A Fieldcrest Regional semifinal in Minonk.

But it didn't hold up as No. 2 Tri-Valley rallied for two of its own in the bottom of the frame to win 6-5.

Tiffany Lindsay took the loss for Fieldcrest, which finishes the season 17-5.
Jaclyn Kalkwarf had a double and two RBIs, while Madison Tjaden and Taylor Tjaden each drove in a run as well.

Ottawa 9, Pontiac 5
Lindsey Greene went 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs and an RBI Tuesday to help the Ottawa softball team to a 9-5 non-conference victory over Pontiac in Ottawa.

Hillary Hon earned the win.
