Roundup: Fieldcrest softball advances, Ottawa baseball clinches share of title

The No. 3-seeded Fieldcrest softball team used 14 hits to propel itself to a 10-4 victory over No. 6-seeded El Paso-Gridley on Monday in a Class 2A Fieldcrest Regional quarterfinal in Minonk.

Alysa White went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs to lead the Lady Knight offense.

Madison Tjaden went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Haley Ruestman was 1-for-2 with two runs and a pair of runs driven in and Jaclyn Kalkwarf went 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Tiffany Lindsay pitched a complete game to earn the win for the Lady Knights, who advance to face No. 2 Tri-Valley at 4:30 p.m. today.

Somonauk 9, Hall 8
The No. 5-seeded Lady Red Devils had their season ended Monday with a loss in a Class 2A St. Bede Regional quarterfinal in Somonauk.

Paw Paw 13, LaMoille-Ohio 0, 5 inn.
The No. 5-seeded Lady Lions managed just three hits Monday in a season-ending loss to No. 4-seeded Paw Paw in a Class 1A Newark Regional quarterfinal in Paw Paw.

Erie-Prophetstown 15, Bureau Valley 3
The No. 4-seeded Storm were upset in a Class 2A Bureau Valley Regional quarterfinal Monday in Manlius.

Midland 21, Henry 10
The No. 5-seeded Lady Mallards were outslugged in a Class 1A Putnam County Regional quarterfinal Monday in Varna.

Morris 7, Ottawa 5, 12 inn.
The Lady Pirates dropped a Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference crossover game Monday in Ottawa.

Taylor Jansen went 4-for-6 with a run for the Lady Pirates (7-9), while Lindsey Greene was 3-for-6 with two doubles and a run.

Taylor Marvin took the loss in relief.

Ottawa 16, Streator 8
The Pirates locked up at least a share of the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference West Division title with a league victory Monday in Streator.

Ottawa is now 20-2 overall and 12-0 in the conference. The Pirates need to win just once in its last three NIB 12 West games — two at home today against Geneseo and one Wednesday at La Salle-Peru — to claim the crown outright.

Kyle Wallbaum led the Pirates Monday as he smacked three doubles, drove in three runs and scored three runs. Tyler Skolek added a three-run triple.

Jacob Draper earned the win in relief.

Earlville-Leland 14, LaMoille-Ohio 8
Brock Kreiter went 4-for-5 with three triples, two runs and four RBIs Monday to lead the No. 4-seeded Red Raiders to victory in a Class 1A Putnam County Regional quarterfinal in Earlville.

Josh Pickert was 1-for-3 with a double, two walks and three runs for E-L (4-14), which advances to face No. 1 Putnam County at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in Granville.

Anthony Lovgren went 2-for-3 with a double, two walks and two runs for the Lions, who scored seven runs in the third inning.

Marquette 12, Bloomington Central Catholic 10
Bryce Hinkelman, Curtiss Johnson and Evan Snyder each drove in three runs Monday as the Crusaders capped the regular season with a non-conference victory in Ottawa.

Hinkelman was 2-for-3 with a double, Johnson went 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored and Snyder had two doubles and three runs.

Tyler Verona earned the win for Marquette (24-7).

Princeville 10, Henry 0, 5 inn.
The No. 5-seeded Mallards struck out 12 times Monday as they had their season ended in a Class 1A Midland Regional quarterfinal in Princeville.

Reed-Custer 6, Fieldcrest 5
No. 3-seeded Reed-Custer executed a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the seventh inning Monday to end the No. 6-seeded Knights’ season in a Class 2A Reed-Custer Regional quarterfinal in Braidwood.
