Roundup: Yepsen throws perfect game in PC's win

The Putnam County softball team had it all working on Thursday.

In the Tri-County Conference game at Peoria Christian, Shelby Yepsen threw the first perfect game of her career and the Lady Panthers hit four home runs to earn a 10-0 seven-inning victory.

Venessa Voss hit a pair of home runs and had four RBI for Putnam County (15-6, 6-0), while Annie Miller and Stephanie Wilson both had two hits including a home run.

Earlville-Leland 14, LaMoille-Ohio 6 (5 inn.)
Six different Lady Red Raiders had two hits or more as E-L rolled to the lightning-shortened Little Ten Conference victory Thursday in Earlville.

Emily Grace had two hits, scored three runs and drove in three, while Jasmine Kerley picked up the win in the circle,

Lexi Beard had three hits and scored three runs for L-O.

BOYS BASEBALL
Hall 8, Woodland 3
The Red Devils remained unbeaten and in first place in the TCC with the road victory Thursday in Streator.

Danny Nolasco allowed three runs on four hits over six innings to pick up the win on the hill, while Pete Mautino pitched a scoreless seventh and also had three RBI at the plate.

Taggart Venegas had two hits for Hall (14-4), which is now 6-0 in the TCC.

Putnam County 10, Peoria Christian 6
Justin Pettit had three hits and scored three runs, while Xavier Warren had three hits and drove in two as the Panthers earned the TCC victory Thursday in East Peoria.

Cody Ballerini and Jack Egan both added two hits and two RBI for Putnam County, while Tyler Williams allowed one run over four innings pitched to pick up the win on the rubber.

Marquette 14, Midland 2 (5 inn.)
A nine-run second inning propelled the Crusaders to the five-inning TCC victory Thursday in Ottawa.

Patrick Killelea went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBI, while on the mound he allowed four hits and two earned runs in four innings to pick up the victory.

Curtis Johnson added two hits and two RBI, while Evan Snyder also drove in a pair.

Rock Falls 12, Mendota 2 (5 inn.)
The Trojans had just two hits in the Big Northern Conference West Division loss Thursday in Rock Falls.

Garet Zinke and Evan Schultz both drove in runs for MHS (5-15, 2-6), while Rock Falls scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning to take control and never let up as it pounded out 11 hits.

GIRLS SOCCER
Mendota 6, Hall 0
The Lady Trojans rolled to the Senior Night victory Thursday in Mendota.

Marissa Bonnell had a hat trick, while Brianna Correa, Abby Bromenschenkel and Morgan Phillips all netted a goal.

Ruby Arteaga made five saves for MHS in the win.

Ottawa 3, Dixon 0
Briggitte Flowers scored two goals as the Lady Pirates earned the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference West Division victory Thursday at Ottawa.

Sophie Snyder also scored and assisted one goal each, while Emily Peterson made 13 saves in goal for the Lady Pirates.

BOYS TENNIS
Rochelle 3, Mendota 2
The Trojans dropped their first dual of the season Thursday in Rochelle.

MHS swept both the singles matches but dropped all three doubles contests.

Cody Phalen won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles for Mendota, while Joey Meyer won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
