Zawacki earns L-P athletic's highest honor


La Salle-Peru senior Brittany Zawacki (center) recently won the Blow Medal/John and Lucy Pomatto Scholarship, the highest honor for an L-P athlete. A $1,500 scholarship accompanied the award in memory of the late John and Lucy Pomatto. Zawacki is pictured with John Riva (left) and Jennifer Scheri, grandchildren of the Pomattos.  The Blow Medal is given in honor of George Preston Blow who, along with his family, was instrumental in building L-P High School.Submitted photo

La Salle-Peru senior Brittany Zawacki was the recipient of the Blow Medal/John and Lucy Pomatto Scholarship, the highest award given by the L-P athletic department.

To be considered for the award, the athlete must have no less than a 2.75 GPA and must have been outstanding in general athletics.

Zawacki, the daughter of Robert and Debra Zawacki of Peru, has been a four-year member of the of the volleyball, basketball and softball teams. She also earned First Team All-Academic, Captain Award, Most Points Award, Most Assists Award, Hustle Award, 3-point regional winner, Prep Athlete of the Week, First Team All-Area, and All-Conference All-Star Team participant.

Zawacki, who will major in communcations at Arizona State, was also the recipient of the Huby Sarver Athletic Scholarship and the L-P Athletic Booster Club Scholarship.
