Junior College Roundup: IVCC men's tennis places fourth in region

The IVCC men’s tennis team’s season ended over the weekend at the Region IV Tournament at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills.

The Eagles placed fourth to finish one spot out of qualifying for the national tournament.

IVCC had three runners up. No. 3 singles player and La Salle-Peru graduate Dan Johnson, fellow L-P alumnus and No. 6 singles player Nate Adcock and the No. 3 doubles team of L-P graduate James Pellican and Princeton alumnus Scott Blessman each placed second.

The Eagles also had two singles players and a doubles team reach the semifinals. Pellican played in the semis at No. 2 singles, while Ottawa graduate Matt Guenther reached the semis in No. 4 singles and also at No. 2 doubles with Adcock.

IVCC 10-4, Black Hawk 9-3
The Lady Eagles ended their regular season Saturday by sweeping an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader in Oglesby.

In a 10-9 victory in the opener, Karly Huss went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs while also earning the win in the circle. She allowed three unearned runs on four hits with a strikeout and two walks in 4 2/3 innings.

Lindsay Schmitz was 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs, while La Salle-Peru graduate Micky Fassino went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs.

In a 4-3 win in the second game, Schmitz was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, while Katie Nauman was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Paige Hill earned the win as she allowed three runs on nine hits with eight strikeouts and one walk in a complete game.

The Lady Eagles finish the regular season 18-13 overall and 13-7 in the conference.
