The Bureau Valley and Mendota baseball teams a non-conference doubleheader Saturday in Manlius.
In BV’s 5-4 win in the opener, the Storm’s Logan Marquez went 2-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBIs.
McKinley Kruger earned the win in relief. He allowed one run on three hits while striking out six batters and walking none.
Trae Blumhorst was 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs and an RBI. He hit his homer in the top of the seventh inning.
Jon Gehm took the loss for Mendota.
In the second game, a 7-1 Trojan victory, Mendota’s Riley Schuhler and Rick Shankles each went 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.
Aaron Olsen pitched six innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits with 10 strikeouts and five walks to earn the victory. He also hit a triple and scored a run for MHS (5-11).
David Dzurisin went 2-for-4 with a double to lead BV (6-8). Ryan Young took the loss on the mound.
La Salle-Peru 16, Plainfield Central 3
Ross Weber earned the pitching win as the Cavaliers picked up a non-conference victory Saturday in Plainfield.
Putnam County went 2-1 Saturday in non-conference games.
The Panthers lost to Rock Falls 7-4 before sweeping a doubleheader against Amboy.
Against Rock Falls, Xavier Warren went 3-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBIs. Tyler Williams took the loss.
Warren again went 3-for-4 as PC beat Amboy 20-0 in the first game of the doubleheader. He had two doubles and drove in three runs.
Austin Pletsch was 4-for-4 with an RBI, while Christian Carboni went 3-for-4 with a double.
Cody Ballerini threw three scoreless innings with six strikeouts to earn the victory.
In PC’s 11-1 victory in the second game, Jack Egan went 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Evan Kreiser was 3-for-4.
Antonio Diaz DeLeon allowed one hit while striking out seven and walking none in four innings to earn the win.
St. Bede went 1-1 at a round robin Saturday at the Academy.
The Lady Bruins beat Rock Falls 3-2 before losing to Sherrard 10-0 in six innings.
Against Rock Falls, Lainie Schweickert earned the win in the circle as she allowed two unearned runs, struck out eight batters, walked two and hit one.
She also helped her cause offensively by hitting a two-run double in the fourth inning.
Emmi Christensen went 2-for-3 and drove in SBA’s other run.
In the second game, Sherrard scored seven runs in the second inning on seven hits and two errors. Christensen took the loss.
Princeton went 2-1 over the weekend at the Orion Tournament.
The Tigresses won their opener 2-0 over Sterling behind a pair of goals from Michelle Kelly. The first was assisted by Keyanna Alitzer.
Princeton dropped its second game 1-0 when Orion/Sherrard scored in the final 20 seconds.
The Tigresses bounced back with a 6-0 victory over DePue in its final game.
Kelly scored three goals to bring her season total to 16. Maria Vitale, Lexi Marselle and Britt Hayes each added one goal for PHS (7-5).
Mendota scored 13 team points to place second Saturday at the Rochelle Hub Invitational. The Trojans won a head-to-head tiebreaker with Sterling Newman.
Princeton placed fourth at the four-team event.
The Trojans received second-place finishes from Cody Phalen at No. 1 singles, Joey Meyer at No. 2 singles and James Carroll and Mark Prescott at No. 1 singles.
Princeton was led by No. 2 singles player Zach Hicks, who won his bracket.
