IVCC sophomore basketball players Alec Schwab and Arnisha Thomas have been named NJCAA Division III Third-Team All-Americans.
“I am proud of both of them,” IVCC athletic director and men's basketball coach Tommy Canale said. “This is great for our college and our programs. I am especially happy for Alec as a local player. It shows the kind of talent we have in the area.”
Schwab, a St. Bede Academy graduate, averaged 19.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals per game to help the Eagles to an 18-11 record.
Schwab is Canale's first All-American since Rosevelt Jones in 2008-09.
“It's cool to be part of such an elite squad and an honor to be listed among the best players in the country,” Schwab said. “It's gratifying to know the hard work I put in last spring and summer paid off.”
Thomas, the Arrowhead Conference MVP, was a unanimous Region IV First-Team selection. She has committed to Eastern Illinois University.
She averaged 19.3 points, 12.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game for the 22-9 Lady Eagles.
The late Shannon Washington of Sarasota, Fla., was a two-time All-American for IVCC in 2008-09 and 2009-10.
“It’s an honor to have a player selected,” IVCC women’s basketball coach Pat Cinotte said. “Having Shannon Washington be All-American two years in row and then having Arnisha, in three of the four years I’ve been here having an All-American is a big thing for IVCC and our program.
