Roundup: Marquette baseball tops Indian Creek

Evan Snyder went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs Wednesday to help the Marquette baseball team to a 7-4 non-conference victory over Indian Creek at Masinelli Field in Ottawa.

Patrick Killelea was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI for the Crusaders (3-1).

Elliot Kowalski earned the win on the mound as he allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits with six strikeouts, two walks and a hit batter in three innings.

Ottawa soccer wins opener
Briggitte Flowers scored a goal and assisted on another Wednesday as the Ottawa girls soccer team opened the season with a 4-1 victory over Byron in Ottawa.

Sophie Snyder, Emma O’Dell and Nayeli Bedolla each scored a goal for the Lady Pirates, who led 3-1 at halftime.

Mendota tennis opens with victory
The Mendota boys tennis team swept the singles matches and won a doubles match Wednesday to earn a 3-2 non-conference victory over Sterling Newman at Mendota.

Cody Phalen won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Joey Meyer picked up a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles.

Mendota’s No. 1 doubles team of James Carroll and Mark Prescott earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

SBA, BV compete in Sterling
The St. Bede and Bureau Valley girls track and field teams competed in an indoor meet Wednesday at the Westwood Complex in Sterling.

Destiny Kwiatek led the Lady Bruins as she placed second in the long jump with a leap of 13 feet, 11 inches.

Riley Francis had the best individual finish for the Storm as she took second in the 3,200 meters in 14:05.

BV also placed second in the 800 and 1,600 relays.

The Storm tied for second as a team with 59 points, while the Bruins finished sixth with 20 points. Erie-Prophetstown won with 207.

L-P girls soccer plays first game
The La Salle-Peru girls soccer program had its first game Wednesday as a junior varsity team. The Lady Cavaliers lost 2-0 to Streator.
