Former Putnam County basketball star Carlton Fay has signed to play for the Sauk Valley Predators, a semi-pro team in Sterling.
The Predators play in the Indpendent Basketball Association-Premier Basketball League.
Fay played the 2012-13 season for Trouville, a professional team in Uruguay.
He averaged 13.9 points and 5.6 rebounds in 38 games.
Trouville’s season ended March 13.
Fay played for the Predators last season. He averaged 16.3 points and 8.4 rebounds in 21 games.
Fay’s first game back with the Predators will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Sterling High School.
Rosters set for IV All Star Games
The rosters have been set for the second annual Illinois Valley All Star games, which are Saturday at Putnam County High School.
The girls game will tip off at 5:30 p.m. There will then be a co-ed 3-point contest before the boys game starts about 7:30 p.m.
Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students and seniors.
The North boys will be coached by St. Bede’s Mike Kilmartin. His assistants will be St. Bede’s Tom Ptak and Brian Hanson.
Local players on the 11-player roster are La Salle-Peru’s Jens Soderholm and Jon VonBehren, St. Bede’s Brad Groleau, Joe Pyszka and Damin Smith, Hall’s Brett Fanning, Mendota’s Trae Blumhorst, Evan Carroll and Austin O’Sadnick and Bureau Valley’s Brian Lange.
The South squad will be coached by Putnam County’s Josh Nauman with PC’s Mike Moriarty as the assistant.
Area players on the 10-player roster are PC’s Cody Veronda and Xavier Warren, Ottawa’s Nick Harsted and Fieldcrest’s Kyle Crowley and Brady Sanders.
The North girls will be coached by St. Bede’s Tom McGunnigal with Mendota’s Kevin Geldon as his assistant.
The team is made up entirely of local players.
Playing are La Salle-Peru’s Brianna Argubright and Brittany Zawacki, St. Bede’s Mo Dean and Lydia Stariha, Hall’s Jacquie Wallaert, Mendota’s Karly Near and Princeton’s Lexi Marselle and Emmalee Sears.
The South squad will be coached by Ottawa’s Mike Cooper and assisted by Ottawa’s Pete Armstrong.
The only local players on the roster are Ottawa’s Lindsey Greene and Jaleesa Kindred.
Twenty-four coaches nominated seniors and the rosters were voted on by coaches and area media.
NCIC releases girls hoops all conference
The NCIC released its girls basketball all-conference team.
St. Bede’s Mo Dean, Whitley Funfsinn and Lydia Stariha were on the first team along with Princeton’s Makenzy Wilson and IVC’s Candis Rudolph.
Local honorable mention picks were St. Bede’s Laura Sickley and Princeton’s Zoe Mead and Emmalee Sears.
Klein places fourth
Peru resident Lauren Klein placed fourth at the Elks Hoop Shoot North Central Regional.
Klein was representing Oglesby Elks Lodge #2360 after winning the state championship in the girls age 8-9 division.
