Roundup: Zeman, Burant win NIB 12 titles

La Salle-Peru’s Logan Zeman and Ottawa’s Austin?Burant claimed individual titles Saturday at the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference Indoor Track and Field Meet at the Westwood Complex in Sterling.

Zeman cleared 6 feet, 7 inches to win the high jump, while Burant leapt 21-0 1/2 to capture the long jump title.

Burant also placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 41-0 1/2.

L-P’s Damion Allen finished second in the 400 meters with a time of 53.11 seconds.

In the shot put,Ottawa’s Travis Pointer placed third (46-7), while L-P’s Brett Kowalczyk was fifth (44-6 1/2).

L-P placed seventh wtih 23 points, just one place and one point ahead ofOttawa. Kaneland claimed the team title with 107 points.

In the girls meet,Ottawa’s Madison Mach had the area’s top finish as she placed third in the pole vault by clearing 8-3.

L-P’s only medalist was Megan?Krolak, who took fifth in the 3,200 in 12:40.83.

The Lady Pirates placed 10th with seven points, and L-P finished last among the 11 teams with two points. Yorkville won the team title with 110 points.

Smallwood, Mead win in Galesburg
Princeton’s Phoenix Smallwood and Zoe Mead each claimed individual titles Saturday at the Galesburg Silverstreak Last Chance Indoor Invitational held at Monmouth?College.

Smallwood won the long jump with a distance of 16 feet, 11 inches, while Mead ran an indoor school record 2:27.32 to win the 800 meters.

Smallwood also placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 34-0 3/4.

Marquette earns two wins
TheMarquettebaseball team won a pair of games Saturday at the Jacksonville Tournament.

The Crusaders beatEdwardsCounty12-2 before topping Valmeyer 13-8.

Against Edwards, Patrick Killelea went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run, while Curtiss Johnson was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.

Elliot Kowalski earned the win as he allowed two runs on four hits in four innings.

Freshman Jel?Raikes earned the win against Valmeyer. He gave up one run on two hits in 1 1/3 innings.

Johnson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs, and Austin McDonnell was 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.
