Fay, William Penn advance to NAIA D-II championship
Putnam County graduate Kevin Fay is playing for a national title.
Fay and the William Penn (Iowa) men’s basketball team advanced to the NAIA Division II championship after the squad beat Grace (Ind.) 79-58 in Monday’s national semifinals.
In the win, the junior Fay had 11 points, two assists and a steal.
The No. 1-seeded Statesmen (34-1) will face No. 2 Cardinal Stritch for the title at 8:05 tonight on the CBS Sports Network.
Hall’s Keegan wins long jump
Hall freshman Brooke Keegan had quite the day on Monday.
Keegan jumped 14 feet, 4 1/2 inches to win the long jump at Monday’s meet at the Westwood Complex in Sterling.
In addition, Keegan ran a time of 28.65 seconds to finish second in the 200-meter dash and posted a mark of 1:06.49 to place fourth in the 400.
Hall’s Katie Hoffert finished second in the triple jump as she leapt 32-4, while Carlee Yuvan placed second in the shot put with a throw of 32-6 1/2.
The Lady Red Devils’ 1,600 relay also finished third with a mark of 4:28.23.
Thomas, Daniels named all-region
Postseason honors continue to come in for the IVCC women’s basketball team.
After sophomore Arnisha Thomas was recently named the Arrowhead Conference MVP, the Eastern Illinois University recruit was named to the Region IV first team Monday.
In addition, fellow IVCC sophomore forward Sydonia Daniels was named to the region’s second team.
L-O’s Morris named LTC All-Conference
LaMoille-Ohio junior Brandon Morris was named to the Little Ten All-Conference Team, which was released on Monday.
This season, Morris averaged 16.7 points per game, 10.6 rebounds per game, 2.0 blocks per game and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 50.0 percent from the floor.
No player from Leland-Earlville made the squad.
