Girls track and field: PHS, BV, H-M compete in Sterling

The Princeton, Bureau Valley and Henry-Midland girls track and field teams competed in an indoor meet Thursday at the Westwood Complex in Sterling.

Princeton had a pair of event winners in Phoenix Smallwood and Zoe Mead.
Smallwood claimed the triple jump (35 feet, 6 ¾ inches) and the long jump (16-0), while Mead won the 400-meter dash (1:06.11).

Regan Weidner led the Storm by winning the 800 (2:35.58) and the 1,600 (5:32.75).

Lindsey Hoffert, the reigning NewsTribune Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year, won the 200 (28.91). Haley DeVoss captured the 60 (8.19).

Henry-Midland won the 3,200 and 1,600 relays.

The foursome of Amber Kereta, Jill Monier, Alyssa Martynowski and Nicole Woodall won the 3,200 relay in 10:42.01, while the team of Melanie Yanke, Amber Kereta, Amanda Kereta and Woodall claimed the 1,600 relay in 4:27.6.

Kaylee Kingen also took an individual title for the Lady Timberducks as she won the shot put with a toss of 31-1 ¾.
