Prep of the Week: SBA's Damin Smith

NT Sports Staff

Name: Damin Smith

School: St. Bede

Year: Senior

Sport: Basketball

Other sports: Football, baseball

Nickname: My dad calls me D-Train, but a lot of my teammates just call me Train.

Superstitions: I usually like to wear a wristband for games.

What celebrity would be your dream prom date?: Megan Fox because she is a babe.

What’s the one thing you do that drives your parents nuts the most?: Probably not putting my clothes away. That’s a big one.

What three words best describe you?: Weird, fun and creative.

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?: I actually don’t like winter. I don’t like the cold. I’d rather it stayed hot. I want to move away to somewhere warm.

What’s your guilty-pleasure TV show?: Probably SpongeBob SquarePants.

Last week’s accomplishments: Smith had a solid week as the Bruins went 2-0. On Tuesday, the senior hit five 3-point shots and finished with a game-high 23 points against Peoria Notre Dame, which later won the Mid-State 6 Conference on Friday. In SBA’s win Friday at Princeton, Smith scored 13 points as the Bruins wrapped up a share of the final NCIC title.

Smith on his performance: We really wanted to get ready for the regionals so we just decided to try to come out strong. It was a good way to end the regular season and (the two wins) were exactly what we were hoping for.

Coach Mike Kilmartin says: Damin has played pretty well all season, but the last couple of weeks he has shot the ball so much better and more like last year, and that’s helped to pick up his whole game. When you don’t have to worry about your shot not being there, then the other parts of the game come together. He’s been a complete player and one of the best all-around players we have.
