Community Sports Notes: L-P Youth Football holding final early signup

The La Salle-Peru Youth Football League will have its last early registration from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Illinois Valley YMCA.

After March 1, players can register for the 2013 season online at, or by calling (815) 220-0281.

L-P softball youth camp
The La Salle-Peru softball program is holding a camp Saturday, March 16 for girls ages 7-14 at the L-P High School gym that will teach the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, throwing, bunting, pitching, catching and base running.

Bring a glove and wear tennis shoes. Helmets and bats will be provided, but campers are welcome to bring their own.

Session 1 for girls ages 7-10 is from 9 a.m. to Noon, and Session II for girls ages 11-14 is from 1-4 p.m.

Campers are asked to bring five canned goods to help the team’s food drive for the Illinois Valley Food Pantry.
The cost is $35 per camper. For two sisters the cost is $60 and for three or more sisters the fee is $75.

District 20 holding road show, umpire clinic
Illinois District 20 Little League is hosting a Little League Road Show and Umpire Clinic, both events will be held at 9 a.m. March 9.

The road show is at the Illinois Valley YMCA. The program, which features presenters from Williamsport, Penn., and Indianapolis, is for league presidents and other board members.

The umpire clinic is at 9 at Hall High School. The fee is $20, which includes materials, breakfast and lunch.

Girls Got Game Shootout has openings
There are still openings for grades 5-7 in the 5th Annual Girls Got Game Shootout March 16-17 sponsored by the Princeton Booster Club.

Utica baseball, softball, T-ball last signup
Utica baseball, softball and T-ball is having its final signup from 9 a.m. to Noon March 2 at the Community Center in Utica.

The fee is $60 for the first child and $40 for each additional child for baseball and softball. T-ball is $30 per child.

T-ball is for children ages 4-6. It is area wide with no residency requirements. T-ball games are held Saturdays and some week nights.

Candy money is due March 2.
