Roundup: L-P cheerleaders place 18th at state

The La Salle-Peru cheerleading team placed 18th in the medium division Friday at the IHSA State Tournament in Bloomington.

The Lady Cavaliers scored an 82.68 in the preliminary round and did not advance to today’s finals. The top 10 teams advanced.

Lemont had the top score at 89.66, while Troy Triad was the last team to advance with an 85.18.

La Salle-Peru 46, Geneseo 44
The Lady Cavaliers pulled out the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference win on the road Friday in Geneseo.

L-P (10-15, 3-8 NIB 12) trailed by 10 points early in the third quarter but rallied to take a 10-point lead in the second half before holding on down the stretch.

Brittany Zawacki scored a team-high 14 points for the Lady Cavaliers, while Mia Porter added 10 points.

The 10 victories by L-P is the first time the program has won double-digit games in a season since 2006-07.

Ottawa 47, Dixon 26
Cassidy Rice led the way for the Lady Pirates with 24 points as Ottawa picked up the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference West Division win over the Duchesses.

Jasmin Bailey added 15 points for OTHS (20-5, 8-1), which led 10-3 after the first quarter and 27-7 at half.

Paw Paw 38, Earlville-Leland 28
Alexis Maxwell had 12 points and four rebounds, but the Lady Red Raiders fell in Friday’s Little Ten Conference game in Leland.

L-E trailed 13-5 after the first quarter and never caught back up.

Katie Meaney added six points for E-L, while Morgan Torman added six rebounds.

Kewanee 72, Bureau Valley 32
The Storm fell behind 21-7 after the first quarter and never caught up as they dropped the Three Rivers Athletic Conference contest in Kewanee.

Nicole Bornsheuer led BV with eight points.

Fieldcrest 62, Dee-Mack 32
The Knights limited the Chiefs to single digits in the first two quarters as they led 29-9 at the break and held on after intermission for the Heart of Illinois Conference victory.

Kyle Crowley led Fieldcrest with 20 points. Drew Barth added 13 points and Brady Sanders chipped in 10. With the win Fieldcrest advances to 10-0 in HOIC play, 19-4 overall.
