In the fall, Henry senior Bobby McBride was presented with the opportunity to continue his golf career at a nationally recognized junior college program led by a former NCAA Division I coach.
He decided to take it.
On Monday afternoon, McBride signed to play golf at Illinois Central College under Bo Ryan, who coached golf at Bradley University for 24 years.
“Illinois Central College is ranked ninth in the nation by NJCAA Division II golf coaches and is ranked third statistically in the ‘head-to-head’ category by golfstat.com,” McBride said. “Coach Bo Ryan, who was a NCAA Division I coach for many years, began showing interest in me as my final high school season progressed. He believes I can develop into a successful collegiate golfer.”
As a senior, McBride went undefeated in Tri-County Conference duals and won the TCC Tournament. He finished second in the area with a 38.9 average and was a sectional qualifier.
McBride hopes to improve under Ryan.
“Because I have only scratched the surface of disciplined training, I think my potential is considerable, and I hope to soon become a much better all-around player,” said McBride, who plans to study communications and journalism.
