Roundup: Marquette wins at TCC Tourney

The Marquette boys basketball team beat Midland 65-43 Thursday night in Granville to advance to the fifth-place game of the Tri-County Conference Tournament.

Curtiss Johnson led the Crusaders (10-9) with 13 points and nine rebounds. Michael Sypniewski added 12 points for Marquette and Austin McDonnell had 10.
Marquette will face Peoria Christian in the consolation title game after the Chargers topped No. 1 seed Henry 52-49 in overtime in Thursday’s other consolation semifinal.

Nathan Helle led the Mallards with 14 points and eight rebounds in the loss.
In other TCC action, DePue rolled past Lowpoint-Washburn 60-36 in the ninth-place game.

Jose Raya led the Little Giants with 16 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Mendota 50, Hall 21
The Lady Trojans outscored Hall 16-4 in the first quarter and never looked back in the non-conference win Thursday at home.

Ally Bromenschenkel led the way for MHS with 16 points, while Hall was led by Kaylee Golden with six.

Dixon 36, La Salle-Peru 33
Hannah Wolfe scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds Thursday as the Lady Cavaliers came up short in a Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference West Division game in Dixon.

Madison Held scored eight points and Brianna Argubright added seven points and six rebounds for L-P (9-13, 2-6 NIB 12 West).

Flanagan-Cornell/Woodland 52, Fieldcrest 50 (OT)
The Lady Knights ended their Heart of Illinois Conference tournament run with an overtime loss to F-C/W at Colfax.

Haley Ruestman led Fieldcrest with 20 points, while Tessa Holland added 11.

Annawan 68, Henry 27
Emma Cluskey scored a team-high 13 points for the Lady Mallards, but it was not enough as Henry fell to Annawan, the No. 2 ranked team in Class 1A.

Somonauk 72, Earlville-Leland 33
The Lady Red Raiders fell behind 12-3 after the first quarter and could not make up the deficit in the Little Ten Conference loss in Leland.
Alexis Maxwell paced E-L (2-14, 1-6) with 13 points and ad
ded eight rebounds.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
Carl Sandburg 77, IVCC 65
The Eagles and Chargers played to a 31-31 tie in the first half, but Carl Sandburg outscored IVCC 46-34 after intermission to claim the Arrowhead Conference victory.
Perry Adams led IVCC (13-7) with 16 points and 16 rebounds. Alec Schwab added 13 points for the Eagles.
