Roundup: St. Bede girls earn program's milestone win

The St. Bede girls basketball team hit a milestone on Monday.

In their second game of the day at Byron’s MLK Tournament, the Lady Bruins beat Dakota 40-32 to win the program’s 500th all-time game.

In the win, Raley Mauck scored 10 points for SBA, while Kelsey Thompson, Laura Sickley and Lydia Stariha all chipped in eight points.

Earlier in the day, the Lady Bruins fell to host Byron 56-33. Stariha scored a team-high seven points in the loss.

The Lady Bruins finished 1-3 at the round-robin event.

Roanoke-Benson 58, Princeton 39
The Tigresses scored just six points in the first quarter and trailed 34-11 at half as they fell Monday in Roanoke.

Emmalee Sears scored a game-high 13 points for the Tigresses, while Zoe Mead chipped in seven points.

GIRLS BOWLING
At DeKalb
La Salle-Peru’s Jess Temple threw a 1,239 series Monday to finish second at the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference Meet in DeKalb.

The Lady Cavaliers senior placed second by just 22 pins and her series included games of 242, 237 and 214.

L-P’s Gabbi McCabe also did well as she finished 19th, while teammate Tiara Golgin placed 20th.

Also at the 10-team event, Ottawa finished eighth overall. Chrissy Pond led the Lady Pirates with a 1,014 series.

BOYS BASKETBALL
La Salle-Peru 60, Lincoln-Way West 48
Playing against a 1-3-1 zone, the Cavaliers shot 50 percent from the floor (23-for-46) and scored 50 points in the paint as they rolled to the win Monday at the MLK Shootout at Joliet Central.

Jens Soderholm had 26 points, nine rebounds and three assists for L-P, while Jon VonBehren added 13 points and Noah Lamboley 10 points.

Fieldcrest 57, Heyworth 40
The top-seeded Knights started their title defense on the right note Monday as they rolled to a win in the quarterfinals of the Heart of Illinois Conference Tournament at Illinois Wesleyan’s Shirk Center.

Kyle Crowley scored a game-high 16 points and Brady Sanders added 13 points for Fieldcrest, which outscored Heyworth 22-1 in the second quarter,
