The Putnam County boys basketball team used a pair of 14-point performances from Xavier Warren and Harold Fay to earn a 59-33 win over Midland in Tri-County Conference action in Varna.
The Panthers (13-7, 5-1) led 17-16 after a first quarter that saw four PC players get two fouls apiece, but gained some breathing room as they outscored MHS 33-12 over the second and third quarters.
St. Bede 63, Newman 36
Joe Pyszka led the Bruins with 14 points, while Brad Groleau added 13 and Damin Smith 12 as the Academy cruised to a win over their Catholic counterparts Friday in Sterling.
St. Bede led 12-6 after the first frame and 21-14 at half before streaking past the Comets with a 25-point third quarter to take a 46-25 lead into the final eight minutes of action.
IVC 68, Princeton 49
Zach Stroud led the way for the Tigers with 11 points and Cole Evenson joined him in double digits with 10, but PHS fell to the Grey Ghosts in an NCIC game in Princeton.
IVC led 15-20 after the first quarter, and 33-23 at half before outscoring PHS 35-26 in the second half.
Fieldcrest 55, Ridgeview 40
Brady Sanders led the way with 21 points as the Knights picked up the Heart of Illinois Conference win in Colfax.
Kyle Crowley added 11 points for Fieldcrest (15-3, 8-0).
Woodland 75, DePue 38
The Little Giants came up short against Warriors as they dropped the Tri-County Conference contest.
Oregon 54, Mendota 39
The Lady Trojans led 15-8 after the first quarter but were outscored 46-24 from there on out in the Big Northern Conference West Division loss.
Ally Bromenschenkel led Mendota (14-7, 3-5) with 11 points.
Ottawa 56, Geneseo 48
The Lady Pirates survived a late push from the Maple Leafs down the stretch to take the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference West Division win in Geneseo.
With the win OTHS advances to 6-1 in NIB12 West play. Sterling sits on top of the league standings with a 7-0 mark.
