Roundup: St. Bede boys basketball avenges loss to IVC

The St. Bede boys basketball team got its revenge.

After the Bruins fell to IVC in their first regular season game this season, St. Bede beat the Grey Ghosts 63-54 Friday in Chillicothe.

The win improves St. Bede to 2-1 in the NCIC and puts it atop the conference. SBA has one game remaining with Princeton, while IVC has two games with the Tigers to play.

Damin Smith scored a team-high 19 points for the Bruins (15-3, 2-1 NCIC), while Grant Bosnich chipped in 15 points.

Marquette 54, DePue 38
Curtiss Johnson scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Crusaders earned the Tri-County Conference victory Friday in Ottawa.

Elliot Kowalski added 14 points and eight rebounds for Marquette (8-8, 3-2 TCC), Jose Raya had a team-high 13 points for the Little Giants (4-7, 1-4 TCC).

Leland-Earlville 61, Serena 51
Tied after the first quarter, a 22-point second-quarter lifted the Panthers to the Little Ten Conference win Friday in Serena.

Nolan Baumbach hit five 3-point shots and finished with a game-high 18 points for L-E (7-10, 2-2 LTC), while Andrew Walsh added 13 points, including going 6-for-8 from the foul line. Dan Pfaff added seven points and 13 rebounds.

In all, the Panthers made 11 3-point shots.

Henry 47, Roanoke-Benson 32
Jake Schlosser and Ryan Condit both scored a team-high 11 points as the Rockets rolled to the TCC win Friday in Roanoke.

Henry trailed 10-9 after the first quarter but outscored R-B 12-5 in the second quarter to take a lead at half.

Nathan Helle added nine points for Henry, while Trent Richards and Kyle Henderson both scored six points.

Rockford Lutheran 74, Mendota 64
The Trojans stayed close with the Crusaders throughout Friday’s Big Northern Conference West Division game but could not pull out the win in Rockford.

Jon Gehm hit seven 3-points shot and finished with a team-high 21 points for MHS (13-5, 2-2 BNC West), while James Carroll added 14 points.

Bureau Valley 46, Amboy 41
The Storm picked up a Three Rivers Athletic Conference victory in Manlius.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Bishop McNamara 57, St. Bede 45
Mo Dean scored a team-high 19 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Bruins fell in the non-conference game Friday in Kankakee.
