Area Roundup: Marquette girls basketball beats Princeton

The Marquette girls basketball team used a strong start with a 14-4 lead after the first quarter to help spur a 43-27 win over Princeton Tuesday night at Bader Gymnasium.

Marissa Gama led the Lady Crusaders (12-7) with 16 points, while Kendall Kaufmann added nine in the win.

McCaela May and Emmalee Sears led Princeton with five points apiece.

Byron 62, Mendota 49
Amy Devitt posted a team-high 18 points and Ally Bromenschenkel (13) and Karly Near (12) joined her in double-digit scoring for Mendota, but it was not enough as the Lady Trojans fell to Big Northern Conference West Division foe Byron on the road.

Mendota trailed 15-12 after the first quarter and 34-22 at half, and could not trim the Lady Tigers advantage after intermission.

Amboy 47, Bureau Valley 23
The Storm trailed by one 5-4 after a slow first quarter, but the Lady Clippers warmed up with 21 second quarter points en route to the Three Rivers Athletic Conference win.
Nicole Bornsheuer led BV with six points in the contest.

Fieldcrest 72, Roanoke-Benson 51
The Knights ran out to a 33-19 lead at halftime and held on after intermission for the non-conference win in Minonk.

Brady Sanders led Fieldcrest with 20 points. Kyle Crowley, Cole Klendworth and Jackson Puetz each added 13 points in the well-balanced scoring effort from the Knights, who shot 57 percent from the field.

At Peru
The La Salle-Peru boys and girls bowling teams pulled off a sweep of rival St. Bede at the Illinois Valley Super Bowl.

In the boys match, Luke Tomaszweski led the way for the Cavaliers with a 663 series and Chris Reynolds added a 643 series as L-P won 3,486-3,387.
Dan Schmidt led the Bruins with a 681 match-high series and 257 high game, and Brandon Criss added a 628 series for the Academy.

In girls action, L-P topped St. Bede 3,297-2,312.

Jessica Temple rolled games of 204, 213 and 231 to lead the way with a 648 series for the Lady Cavaliers. Gabbi McCabe added a 647 series with a high game of 234 for L-P.

Ottawa 2,804, Kewanee 2,149
The Ottawa girls bowling team rolled past Kewanee in non-conference action.
Natalie Conrad led the way for the Lady Pirates with a 518 series while Kayla Guenther registered a 491 series.
