The La Salle-Peru boys basketball team mounted a second-half comeback but could not finish the effort with a 59-53 loss to Limestone Saturday in the fifth-place game of the Pekin Insurance Holiday Tournament.
The Cavaliers trailed 35-21 at the break and managed to whittle the deficit down to 43-36 after a strong third quarter but came up short over the final eight minutes.
Jens Soderholm led L-P with 24 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field and 10-of-11 accuracy from the free throw line. Noah Lamboley added 14 points for the Cavs.
Providence St. Mel 49, Fieldcrest 33
The Knights came up short in the third-place game of the Class A Boys State Farm Holiday Classic.
Fieldcrest trailed 21-18 at halftime and 31-28 after three, but St. mel outscored the Knights 18-5 in the final period for the win.
Brady Sanders led FHS with 15 points and Kyle Crowley added 10 points for the Knights.
The Mendota sophomore boys basketball team took second place at the Plano Christmas Classic sophomore tournament with a 54-49 loss to Aurora Christian.
Ryan Reeder led MHS with 21 points and Krueger Keene added 13 points.
Plano 60, Marquette 52
The Lady Crusaders fell to Plano the title game of the Amboy Holiday Tournament Saturday.
Marquette fell behind 35-18 at halftime and could not erase the early deficit despite outscoring Plano 34-25 after the break.
Alice Salt led Marquette (9-7) with 15 points and Marissa Gama added 13.
Gama and Kendall Kaufmann each were named to the all-tournament team.
Galva 43, Bureau Valley 26
The Storm ended their run at Erie’s Cliff Warkins Memorial with a loss to Galva.
Nicole Bornsheuer led BV with 10 points in the loss. Irini Petros added a team-high 11 rebounds for the Storm.
