Roundup: L-P wrestling goes 3-0

The La Salle-Peru wrestling team went 3-0 Thursday in a quadrangular at La Salle-Peru.

The Cavaliers beat Rochelle 40-32, topped Boylan 45-28 and defeated East Peoria 43-36. East Peoria is ranked No. 19 in Class 2A by www.illinoismatmen.com.

BOYS BASKETBALL
Fieldcrest 46, Prairie Central 33
Brady Sanders scored a game-high 18 points Thursday as the Knights advanced to the State Farm Holiday Classic semifinals.

Fieldcrest trailed 13-10 after the first quarter but outscored Prairie Central 18-6 in the second quarter to take a 28-19 at halftime.

Prairie Central outscored Fieldcrest 12-9 in the third quarter, but the Knights scored nine points and limited the Hawks to just two points in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Drew Barth added 10 points for the Knights (10-1), who play Quincy Notre Dame in the semifinals at 7:30 tonight at the Shirk Center at Illinois Wesleyan University.

Quincy Notre Dame beat Bloomington Central Catholic 74-47 on Thursday.

At Princeville
Henry junior Nathan Helle led a furious Mallard comeback that fell just short Thursday night in the Princeville Holiday Tournament semifinals.

Helle scored 20 of his game-high 26 points in the final eight minutes as the Mallards fell 56-54 to Elmwood.

The Mallards (11-2) trailed 23-18 at halftime and 38-26 entering the fourth quarter.

Jake Schlosser, Ryan Condit and Kyle Henderson each added nine points for Henry, which will play Brimfield in the third-place game at 6 tonight. Brimfield fell 57-56 to Galva in the other semifinal.

In other tournament action, DePue topped Lowpoint-Washburn 52-40 in the consolation semifinals.

Jesse Lopez poured in a game-high 28 points to lead the Little Giants, who led 30-18 at halftime.

DePue will face North Fulton at 3:30 p.m. today in the consolation championship.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Putnam County 50, Princeville 45
Carly Gonet caught fire from beyond the 3-point arc Thursday, draining six long-range shots to help the Lady Panthers past the host Princesses in the Princeville Holiday Tournament.

Gonet finished with a game-high 21 points for Putnam County (14-2), which led 27-25 at halftime before outscoring Princeville 23-20 in the second half.

The Lady Panthers are 2-0 in the tournament and can wrap up the title with a victory at 10 this morning against Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn.

Marquette 46, Indian Creek 45
After blowing a double-digit halftime lead, the Lady Crusaders managed to pull one the win in overtime at the Amboy Holiday Tournament.

Marquette led 29-19 at halftime before being outscored 11-1 in the third quarter.
Marssa Gama knocked down five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 21 points to lead Marquette, which plays at 3 p.m. today against Somonauk.

Kendall Kaufmann scored 14 points and Allison Taylor added nine for the Lady Crusaders (8-6).

Stockton 50, Bureau Valley 10
Lacey DeVenney scored a team-high four points Thursday as the Storm fell at the Cliff Warkins Memorial Cardinal Classic at Erie.
