The Putnam County girls basketball team used a strong fourth quarter Wednesday to top Elmwood 51-44 in the first game of the Princeville Holiday Tournament.
The Lady Panthers (13-2) trailed 34-31 entering the final eight minutes, but led by Carly Gonet’s 10 fourth-quarter points, PC outscored Elmwood 20-10 in the final period.
Gonet finished with a game-high 14 points for the Lady Panthers, while Allison and Venessa Voss each added eight points.
The Lady Panthers play the host Princesses at 10 this morning.
Marquette 67, Ashton-Franklin Center 23
Marissa Gama single-handedly outscored A-FC on Wednesday as the Lady Crusaders opened the Amboy Holiday Tournament with an easy victory.
Gama hit 11 field goals, including four 3-pointers, as she poured in a game-high 31 points.
Kendall Kaufmann and Angela Evola each scored 12 points for Marquette (7-6), which led 22-4 after the first quarter and 36-8 at halftime.
The Lady Crusaders play Indian Creek at 3 p.m. today.
Monmouth-Roseville 45, Bureau Valley 15
Nicole Bornsheuer scored two-thirds of BV’s points Wednesday as BV fell at Erie’s Warkins Classic.
Bornsheuer finished with 10 points and 16 rebounds for the Storm, who scored seven points in the first quarter but managed just two points in the second and third quarters.
Fieldcrest 67, Peoria Christian 48
Senior guard Brady Sanders scored a team-high 23 points Wednesday as the Knights opened the State Farm Holiday Classic with a victory.
Sanders was one of three Fieldcrest players in double figures. Kyle Crowley scored 18 points and Drew Barth added 13.
The Knights led 15-12 after the first quarter before outscoring the Chargers 24-14 in the second period to take control of the game.
Fieldcrest plays Prairie Central at 7:30 tonight in the quarterfinals.
