Basketball roundup: IVCC sweeps Joliet JC

The IVCC men’s and women’s basketball teams swept Joliet in a non-conference doubleheader on the road Saturday.

The women’s team opened the day by beating Joliet 71-65 and the men followed up with a 77-70 victory.

Arnisha Thomas led the Lady Eagles (7-2) with a team-high 20 points, while Marquette graduate Jessica Jessen had 11 points.

Ottawa graduate Aysa Williams and Brooke Johnson each added 10 points for IVCC.

Sophomore big man Perry Adams led the IVCC men with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Josh Fenoglia had 18 points and four blocks, while JoVonn Griffin added 14 points and six assists for the Eagles (7-2).

Putnam County 78, Stark County 38
Xavier Warren scored a game-high 21 points Saturday to help the Panthers to a non-conference win in Granville.

Warren knocked down four 3-pointers and scored 16 points in the first quarter.
Cody Veronda added 12 points for PC, which led 49-22 at halftime.

Immaculate Conception 67, St. Bede 65, 2 OT
The Bruins fell in double overtime Saturday at the Amboy Shootout.

Four St. Bede players scored in double figures led by Brad Groleau’s 15 points. Joe Pyszka had 14 points, Bobby Morrow scored 13 points and Sam Lucas added 10 points for the Bruins (3-2), who led 34-21 at halftime.

Ridgewood 77, Leland-Earlville 74
Brady Saylor scored 20 points Saturday, but it wasn’t enough as the Panthers fell at the Eastland Shootout.

Dan Pfaff scored 19 points and Andrew Walsh added 16 for L-E.

Putnam County 49, Galva 37
Three PC players scored in double figures Saturday as the Lady Panthers won at the Amboy Shootout.

Daniela Pavlovich and Carly Gonet shared team-high honors with 11 points each, while Megan Rehn added 10 points for PC (7-1).

Immaculate Conception 41, St. Bede 36
Mo Dean scored 22 points — 61.1 percent of St. Bede’s output — as the Lady Bruins lost Saturday at the Amboy Shootout.

Lydia Stariha added eight points for SBA, which fell behind 19-6 after the first quarter.

Sterling Newman 72, Bureau Valley 21
The Storm fell in a Three Rivers Athletic Conference game Saturday in Manlius.

Jazmine Delbridge and Nicole Bornsheuer each scored four points for Bureau Valley.
