Roundup: La Salle-Peru girls basketball cruises to first win at Pontiac

The La Salle-Peru girls basketball team picked up its first victory of the season Saturday, topping Streator 63-39 in the seventh-place game at the Pontiac Thanksgiving Tournament.

Senior Brittany Zawacki led the Lady Cavaliers (1-3) with 17 points. Mia Porter scored 13 points and Brianna Argubright added 10 for L-P.

At Princeton
The Putnam County girls basketball team claimed third place in the Tigresses Holiday Tournament with a 57-37 thumping of host Princeton on Saturday.

Daniela Pavlovich poured in a game-high 26 points to lead the Lady Panthers, while Carly Gonet added 15 points.

Abby Jaques and Emmalee Sears led Princeton with eight points each.
In other tournament action, Midland topped Henry 53-36 in the fifth-place game.
Emma Cluskey led the Lady Mallards with 15 points.

Bureau Valley edged LaMoille-Ohio 43-41 in the seventh-place game.
Heaven Bennett scored a layup just before the buzzer on a long inbounds pass from Irini Petros to lift the Storm to their first victory.

Bennett led BV with 12 points, while Lacey DeVenney added 11 points.
Alissa Schrader scored a game-high 19 points and added 12 rebounds to pace the Lady Lions.

Erie beat Stark County 42-29 to take the championship

At Oregon
The Mendota girls basketball team finished fourth at the Oregon Tip-Off Classic after dropping a pair of games Saturday.

The Lady Trojans fell 66-42 to Rockford Lutheran in the semifinals before losing 48-31 to Prophetstown in the third-place game.

Amy Devitt scored a team-high 14 points against Lutheran, while Brooke Carroll paced MHS with eight points against Prophetstown.

In other tournament action, Marquette finished ninth with a pair of wins Saturday.
The Lady Crusaders beat Polo 54-27 behind 22 points from Marissa Gama and 11 from Sydney Stalker before topping Hall 54-28 in the ninth-place game.

Kendall Kaufmann scored a team-high 12 points for Marquette, while Gama added 10 points.

Becca Herrmann led the Lady Red Devils (1-3) with 16 points.

At Brimfield
Mo Dean torched Brimfield for 25 points Saturday, but it wasn’t enough as the St. Bede girls basketball team fell 70-63 to the host Lady Indians at the Brimfield Thanksgiving Tournament.

Whitley Funfsinn added 10 points for the Lady Bruins, who were outscored 23-16 in the fourth quarter by Brimfield.

St. Bede topped Elmwood 61-24 on Friday behind 13 points from Lydia Stariha and 11 points from Laura Sickley.
