11/19/2012 9:46:00 AM Coutts resigns as Hall volleyball coach
Family came first for Amanda Coutts.
After completing her first season as Hall volleyball coach this fall, Coutts resigned as coach last Tuesday and her resignation was accepted by the Hall Board at Wednesday’s meeting.
In the end, it came down to family.
“It’s a hard decision but yet not,” said Coutts, who said she decided to step down about a week after the season. “It’s about family. I have a 7 year old and a 3 1/2 year old, and last year while I was helping with (former Hall coach Laurie) Polte, it seemed to be fine and I think it was because my 7 year old was younger and was only in school half day. But this year, it changed and she is there all day, and it was just hard on her not seeing me when she was used to me being there all the time.”
Coutts, a stay at home mom, spent one season as an assistant coach at Hall under Polte before becoming head coach this season, during which she guided Hall to a 5-27 record and 2-7 mark in the Tri-County Conference.
“It was a very tough decision, and I had hoped to be there awhile and build my program,” Coutts said. “But family comes first, and it just wasn’t working for them.”
Coutts, who said she may return to coaching in the future, was the third Hall volleyball coach in the last three years and is the fourth coach in the past five years.
Coutts is the second area volleyball coach to resign this fall. Bernadette Savitch resigned as Ottawa volleyball coach after the season ended.
