Roundup: Princeton, Fieldcrest, Ottawa girls basketball win openers

The Princeton girls basketball team started the Kevin Hieronymus Era in style on Monday.

In the Tigresses first game under their new coach, Princeton topped LaMoille-Ohio for a 48-33 season-opening win at the Tigresses Holiday Tournament.

In the victory, seven different players scored for Princeton, including Makenzey Wilson, who scored a game-high 11 points.

Zoe Mead added nine points and 17 rebounds for the Tigresses, while Shiela Browning’s 11 points paced the Lady Lions.

Also Monday at Princeton, Erie beat Henry 45-20, while Stark County pounded Bureau Valley 46-11.

Shelby Wright had a team-high eight points for Henry, while Laura Bummel scored four points for BV.

Fieldcrest 60, Roanoke-Benson 43
Haley Ruestman scored 23 points and Tessa Holland added 19 points and 14 rebounds as the Lady Knights rolled to the season-opening win.

Fieldcrest led 16-6 after the first quarter and 33-19 at half.

Julia Jochums added eight points as the Lady Knights shot a total of 32 free throws.

Ottawa 63, Streator 26
The Lady Pirates built a 26-4 lead after the first quarter and rolled to the season-opening win on the opening night of the Pontiac Thanksgiving Tournament.

Jaleesa Kindred scored a game-high 14 points, while Lindsey Greene added 11 points.

Streator 3465, La Salle-Peru 3072
Dakota Koenig rolled a 227 high game and a 615 high series, but the Cavaliers fell in the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference duel Monday in Peru.

Chris Reynolds added a 602 series for L-P.

HOIC All-Conference
Fieldcrest senior Cole Klendworth excelled on both sides of the ball this season and he was recently rewarded.

Klendworth was named All-Heart of Illinois Conference First Team as a defensive lineman and All-HOIC Second Team as a tight end.

Junior teammate Dakota Park was named second team on the offensive line, while sophomore Jared Rients received honorable mention on the defense line.

HOIC All-Conference
Fieldcrest junior Gracie Wiesenhofer was named to the second team on the HOIC All-Conference Team, which was recently released.

Junior Kaitlyn Petersen and sophomore Tessa Holland both received honorable mention.
