Golf roundup: Mautino qualifies for state

Hall junior Pete Mautino shot a 9-over-par 80 Monday at the Golf Club of Illinois in Algonquin to earn a berth in the IHSA Class 1A State Tournament this weekend in Bloomington.

Mautino’s 80 was second among the 10 individual qualifiers at the Class 1A Westminster Christian Sectional.

North Shore Country Day’s Andrew Bedford fired a 75 to win the individual title and help his team to the regional championship with a 313.

Byron (339) and Freeport Aquin (348) also advanced.

Mautino’s teammate Nick Scheri and St. Bede’s Joey Dudek and Jarret Olson did not advance.

At other sectionals, Henry’s Bobby McBride and Fieldcrest’s Jordan Cochran and Dan Morse fell short of state berths at the Class 1A Watseka Sectional, while Bureau Valley’s Ryan Young did not advance out of the Class 1A Petersburg PORTA Sectional.

At Normal
La Salle-Peru sophomore Jackie Somolski shot a 118 Monday at the Class AA Normal University Sectional and fell short of advancing to the state tournament this weekend.

The last individual to advance was Moline’s Emily Thomas with a 90. Belleville East’s Miranda Lidisky won the regional with a 10-over-par 82.

At Lincoln
Princeton finished last among the 12 teams with a 491 Monday at the Class A Lincoln Sectional.

Sophia Suarez paced the Tigresses with a 117. Also scoring for Princeton were Arraia Hicks (121), Audra Reidner (125) and Julie Miller (128).

Rochester won the team title with a 340. Quincy Notre Dame (345) and Morton (362) also advanced.

Knoxville’s Taylor Thompson earned the individual title with a 7-over-par 78, while Stark County’s Danielle Kenney earned the last individual state berth with an 89.
