Schools, police, fire officials meet about security

Tamara Abbey
Mendota Bureau Chief

MENDOTA — Prior to the start of this week’s Mendota Grade School Board meeting, board members took a moment of silence in recognition of last week’s fatal shooting at a Connecticut elementary school. Superintendent Kristen School said she met with Mendota Police Department, Mendota Fire Department and Mendota High School superintendent Jeff Prusator.
“We went through our crisis plan but with an eye on what happened in Connecticut,” she said. “We met about an hour and a half and felt very much supported by our police and fire departments.”
School said the district regular meets with emergency responders and conducts drills with students. Mendota police also have done several drills at the schools in different scenarios.
The meeting this week was specific to what was known about Friday’s deadly attack at Sandy Hook Elementary. School said the district would continue to work with emergency responders to keep students safe.
