A driver was killed and two Peru paramedics were injured in a traffic accident Wednesday afternoon involving a car and a Peru ambulance east of Metamora, according to the Woodford County Coroner.
The driver of a car, Galeen M. Driscoll, 64, of Metamora was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the ambulance, Daniel G. Dempsey, 44 of Peru and a passenger, James K. Zborowski, 61, of Peru were injured and taken to a Peoria hospital, according to Woodford County Coroner Tim Ruestman.
The coroner was dispatched to the scene at 5:02 p.m. and Driscoll was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:05 p.m., according to the coroner.
Zborowski was treated and released and Dempsey was in stable condition this morning to St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, according to Mark Roberson, chief of Peru Volunteer Ambulance Service.
The ambulance was returning to Peru after transporting a patient to Peoria when the accident happened, Roberson said. Snow and deteriorating road conditions contributed to the accident, he said.
“We appreciate the support, calls and messages from surrounding emergency services,” Roberson said. “We ask that you please keep the family of Galeen Driscoll, as well as our EMTs and their families in your thoughts and prayers.”
No citations were issued. The accident is under investigation by Woodford County coroner and sheriff offices.
