HENNEPIN - The Putnam County Board opened its meeting Tuesday with a moment of silence for Jim and Sharon Goldasich.
Jim, an 80-year-old McNabb resident who was the county Emergency Management Agency coordinator, died Oct. 27 from cancer. His 71-year-old wife, Sharon, died Monday night after a car accident on an icy Interstate 39 overpass over U.S. 24 near El Paso.
“For Jim and Sharon, I’d like to take a moment of silence,” county board chairman Duane Calbow said.
The board revisited an issue tabled last month — whether to allow public defender Roger Bolin to join the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund. As it turns out, the board won’t decide the issue at all. The matter will be decided by IMRF, Bolin told the board.
Bolin said he was told by an IMRF representative that since he is appointed, not elected, IMRF would make the decision.
Clerk Dan Kuhn said he spoke to an IMRF representative about the matter.
“They basically said it was under review,” he said. “The paperwork has been submitted.”
