IVCC leaders expect 10 percent tuition hike

NT Staff

Illinois Valley Community College administrators will not fill 11 full- and part-time hiring requests in an attempt to ease financial constraints, administrators announced Monday at an audit/finance committee meeting.

The budget also is being helped by an 11.7 percent decrease in utility expenses due to low utility rates and fiber-optic installation, among other factors.

Neither measure, however, will negate a need to increase tuition by about 10 percent beginning in the fall semester, the administrators said.

In other business, the committee looked at the information technology 2015-17 strategic plan which includes improved cell phone reception through a $195,000 Distributed Antenna System. A $73,000 grant will offset the cost. In addition, there will be a $90,850 wireless access expansion.

“Wi-Fi expansion is one of our top priorities,” said Emily Vescogni, director of learning technologies. The plan will add 60 access points throughout campus.

The committee also examined the college’s workers’ compensation insurance rating which has improved each of the past four years due to better-than-average loss experience.

“This is a result of our safety-minded staff and faculty, our supervisors providing a safe work environment and our human resource office managing the claims well,” said IVCC president Jerry Corcoran.

The story didn't mention Jerry Corcoran's annual salary increase.

The Board approved $183,092.80 salary increase not including his benefit package.
