Paul Marincic of Jonesville is dominating at the Illinois State Fair like Michael Jordan used to in the NBA.

OK, it’s a LOT less popular game, but for the sixth year in a row and the seventh time in the past eight years, Marincic won the blue ribbon for the biggest tomato (by weight) at the state fair.

“It weighed 2.29 pounds and I grew it from seeds I got from a champion tomato from Switzerland. (How many rings does Michael Jordan have?),” Marincic said in an email to the NewsTribune today. “I feel very lucky to have won. The weather this spring was favorable for tomatoes.

“My gardening buddy from Peru, Joe Donahue, went with me and he got second place in this category on his first try. The Illinois Valley boys done good.”
