WENONA — Wenona Days starts today as Family Night in Wenona City Park, and with a bags tournament at the tennis courts, and continues through Sunday.
Today’s events: 5-7 p.m. Pork chop and hot dog dinner; photo ID, DNA and fingerprinting; and two-faced designs by Laura Krischel; 5-8 p.m. Indian Ridge Farms Petting Zoo, west of the pavilion; 5-9 p.m. obstacle course blow-up, north side of the pavilion; 5-10 p.m. carnival uptown; 6 p.m. free treats under the pavilion; 6-6:30 p.m. Taekwondo demonstration; 6-8 p.m. balloon artists; 6:30-7:30 p.m. carnival craft; 6:30 p.m. flag-burning ceremony; 7-9 p.m. music by The Templetons at the ball diamond. The bags tournament for ages 13 and older ($20 per team) starts at 6 p.m., with registration at 5 at the tennis courts.
Friday and Saturday brings the “battle of the bars,” with a vote for favorite Wenona Days-themed drinks at participating establishments.
Also Friday: 11 a.m.-8 p.m., Heirloom Silent Auction; 4:30 p.m.-1 a.m., beer tent, uptown, with music after 8 p.m. by Bob Bradish and The Backstabbers; 5 p.m. kettle popcorn serving, the Mason food stand and the carnival begin uptown; 7 p.m., Wenona 5K Run, City Park.
Also Saturday: 7:30-10 a.m. doughnut sale by Fieldcrest Cheerleaders in front of Shear Beauty; 8 a.m. tee time for Wenona Mustang Round Up Golf Tournament, Tall Oaks Country Club, 8-11 a.m. car wash, Fieldcrest Middle School parking lot, Fieldcrest High School Band; 10 a.m. beer tent opens, Masons food tent opens; kettle popcorn serving starts; Heirloom Silent Auction continues; 10:30a.m. Kiddie Tractor Pull; north end of City Park; noon, carnival opens; 1 p.m. Wenona’s Amazing … So Let’s Race!, uptown, like the “Amazing Race,” first team to finish wins 100 percent payout; 6-8 p.m. Wenona High alumni Mustang Round-Up Reunion, uptown pavilion; 9 p.m., Jam Sammich Band.
Fireworks off the coal dump, weather permitting, are planned at 9 p.m. Saturday
Sunday: 7:30-8:45 a.m., registration for 3 on 3 basketball tournament, City Park; 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Wenona Days of Thunder Car Show, south of elevator, awards at 1:30 p.m.; 10 a.m., food and beverage attractions open, as does a craft and vendor show (south end of the car show); 11:30 a.m., Registration and line-up for parade in Fieldcrest Middle School parking lot, judging starts at 12:30 p.m. 1 p.m. brings the parade, carnival opening and grocery cart food drive. More events: 3 p.m. bingo, American Legion; 2 p.m., duck races; 2:30 p.m. burnout contest on “Thunder Road” between elevator and uptown pavilion; 4:30-6 p.m. chicken dinner, uptown pavilion; 5 p.m. Rotary draw down, uptown pavilion; 6 p.m. 50/50 drawing; 6:15-7:15 p.m. Wind down with Wine Bingo will following the draw down at pavilion. Participants can bring a bottle of wine per card. Snacks will be provided. And at 7:15 p.m. is the Rocking Horse raffle drawing for a custom-made rocking horse donated by Robert Nuding.
