NewsTribune Senior Reporter

OTTAWA — Authorities agreed to hold a 15-year-old who allegedly tried to rob the Tonica Casey’s until at least Aug. 26, when he next appears in court.

The 15-year-old was ordered held Tuesday in La Salle County Detention Home after a hearing before Judge Cynthia M. Raccuglia, who determined there was probable cause to hold him.

The youth is charged with attempted armed robbery for allegedly trying to rob Casey’s General Store in Tonica at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday. A knife was brandished but authorities said there were no injuries.

Details remain pending, but a preliminary report indicated the no items or cash were stolen in the attempt.

An adult would face 4-15 years in prison if convicted of the Class 1 felony. Youths, however, are subject to a much more diverse sentencing range.

The suspect will next appear Aug. 26 for a status hearing before Judge Daniel J. Bute.
