MARSEILLES — Exelon’s La Salle Generating Station Unit 2 automatically shut down at 5:34 p.m., Tuesday after a valve on one of the station’s steam lines closed.
No injuries occurred, and the plant is safe, stated Exelon spokeswoman Meghan Borchers in a prepared statement.
Station operators are looking into the cause of the valve closure, Borchers stated.
“The La Salle Unit 2 shutdown will not have an impact on electrical service to Exelon customers,” she stated. “La Salle Unit 1 continues to operate at full power.”
La Salle Generating Station is located south of Marseilles in eastern La Salle County. At full power, the facility’s two generating units produce more than 2,200 megawatts around the clock, enough electricity for 2.3 million typical homes.
