Plans for a handicap-only parking lot on Illinois Valley Community College’s campus are moving forward.
Board members Thursday voted unanimously to begin seeking bids for the construction of an 18-space parking lot with every space meeting the criteria outlined under the Americans with Disabilities Act. The parking lot will be located in front of the Peter Miller Community Technology Center near the building’s secondary entrance.
“We are in line with every letter of the law, but not in the spirit of the law, which is why were doing this,” said board member Laurie Bonucci.
The parking lot is estimated to cost about $280,000.
The college campus meets ADA requirements for all of its accessible parking spaces on campus.
But currently, the most convenient are the 12 spaces in the college’s east campus parking lot along the east side of the CTC building. That location creates a long distance for people to travel to enter the main campus building.
In other business: President’s contract: Board members approved IVCC president Jerry Corcoran’s three-year contract. The contract includes a roughly 1percent raise making his annual salary about $183,000. Board chairman Melissa Olivero said the low raise wasn’t a reflection Corcoran’s performance, but in response to the college’s difficult financial situation.
New vice president: Deborah Anderson was unanimously approved as the vice president of academic affairs.
Purchases: Board members approved the purchase of nursing equipment from Medical Shipment, Elk Grove, in the amount of $30,547 and for two different mechatronics learning system equipment: one from Advanced Technologies Consultants, Inc., based in Northville, Mich. for $184,050 and one from Aidex Corp., based in Rossville, Ind., for $122,690.
Appointments: Board members learned of the appointment of Jason Goode, head baseball coach, and Erin Polte, head volleyball coach.
Resignations: Board members learned of the resignations of Theresa Lynch, part-time dental assistant program faculty; Marjorie Grzybowski, part-time assessment center assistant; Jeanette Maurice, part-time faculty; Samantha Deters, assistant volleyball coach; Cathy Buck, part-time career services specialist; and Carol Krancic, part-time faculty.

IVCC's President Jerry Corcoran's annual salary increase!
The IVCC Board approved $183,092.80 salary increase not including his benefit package.
However, the IVCC leaders expect another 10 percent tuition hike!
IVCC administrators will not fill 11 full- and part-time hiring requests in an attempt to ease financial constraints, administrators announced Monday at an audit/finance committee meeting.
Who's the parking for? Enrollments continue to decline. More IVCC hocus pocus at the tax payers expense.
