Hennepin polling place moved due to mold

Hennepin residents take note: A polling place is being moved, though only for Tuesday’s primary election.

Putnam County clerk Dan Kuhn said Friday that Hennepin precinct 1 has been relocated from the Hennepin Park District pool complex to the Hennepin fire station, located at 201 E. High St.

The reason for the switch: Mold.

Officials at the park district tore out some old floor boards in the community room and found mold. Construction released the spores into the air, and Hennepin authorities don’t want anyone using the community room until the mold is removed.

“This will be for Tuesday only,” Kuhn said. “I’m told it could be corrected (next week), but we’re not taking any chances.”

Park district manager Sandy Hrasch said there were no airborne spores prior to construction.

The district has since retained a professional cleaning company and fresh samples were collected Friday to see whether they got it all.

“If not, we keep going until we get it,” Hrasch said. “It’s just in our community room and we will not reopen it until we’re sure it’s mold-free.”
