MENDOTA — Mendota High School principal Denise Aughenbaugh announced 16 students have been named 2014-15 Illinois State Scholars.
The students are Gillian Brown, daughter of Steven and Susan Brown of Mendota; Austin Bjurnette, son of Duane and Denise Burnette of Mendota; Mario Cortes, son of Mario and Raquel Cortes of Mendota; Kyle Dieter, son of Mark and Dawn Dieter of Ottawa; Matt Dornink, son of Mike and Kim Dornink of Mendota; Connor Doughty, son of Jodi Moore of Mendota and Brian Doughty of Utica; Connor Dullard, son of Stephen and Debra Dullard of Mendota; Kennedy Gahan, daughter of Steve and JoEllyn Gahan of Mendota; Kady Halbmaier, daughter of Jim and Peggy Halbmaier of Mendota; Mauricio Hernandez, son of Juan and Consuelo Hernandez of Compton; Eric Masini, son of Joe and Jennifer Masini of Mendota; Madison Myers, daughter of Patrick and Rhonda Myers of Mendota; Cody Phalen, son of Debbie Phalen of Mendota and Steve and Holly Phalen of Mendota; Nicholas Phalen, son of Timothy and Jan Phalen of Mendota; and Riley Schuhler, son of Mike and Kim Schuhler of Mendota. Aaron Olsen, son of Ed and Sue Olsen of Mendota was posthumously recognized.
The annual awards are given by Illinois Student Assistance Commission. Honorees rank in the top 10 percent of the state’s high school seniors. Selection is based on ACT scores and cumulative grade point average at the end of the junior year.
