Symphony goes west for season opening concert

NT Staff

PRINCETON — Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra will open its 2013-14 season with its Rhapsody in Blue Pops Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22 in Princeton High School’s Auditorium.

Nicholas Towns, pianist and a native of Princeton, returns to his alma mater to perform Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue,” plus other American favorites. He is a pianist and coach living in Wisconsin. Since 2008, he has been the collaborative pianist in the keyboard department at Lawrence University in Appleton, where he performs around 75 recitals each year with students, faculty, and guest artists.

He has shared the concert stage with artists such as Cynthia Lawrence, Ian Clarke, Todd Baldwin, Demondrae Thurman, and Steven Cohen. As an active participant in new music, he has workshopped various musicals and has most recently performed the works of Per Bloland for piano and electromagnets at regional and national conferences.

Admission is $12 for adults and $5 for students. Season subscriptions are available.
