Due to weather related issues, in some areas there may be delayed deliveries of your Monday issue of the NewsTribune.
If road conditions are severe enough, your delivery person may not be able to deliver your NewsTribune at all on Monday.

Charity walk and charity run season is in full swing in late summer. Just a few are listed below.
* Red Cross: Thirty-thousand dollars is the goal the Illinois Valley American Red Cross wants to reach with its 21st annual Walk-Run-Bike fundraiser at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, at Baker Lake in Peru. Registration will begin at noon. Walkers, bikers and runners will leave the starting line. All registered participants will receive T-shirts. Money raised from the event will be used for local Red Cross activities including disaster services training and response, health and safety programs, and mobile meal deliveries. The Red Cross blood donation program will also benefit. “Walk Run Bike is a fun, family-oriented celebration that includes food, drinks, raffles, music and outdoor games that participants look forward to year after year,” said Sarah Stasik, manager of the Peru Red Cross office. The Peru Walk Bike Run will also include a family bike safety rodeo on the east side of Baker Lake from noon-2 p.m. The first 100 children attending will receive a free bicycle helmet and rodeo T-shirt. An adult must accompany each bike rodeo participant. For more information and to register for the Walk Bike Run and/or the bike rodeo, call (815) 223-0922 or e-mail or send an e-mail message to Sarah.Stasik@redcross.org.
* Illinois Valley Alzheimer’s Group will host the “Boo” Milby Memory 5K Run/Walk at 6:45 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17 at Northwest Elementary School, La Salle. For the first time, the run is included on the Starved Rock Runners circuit, said one of the event organizers and group leaders, Joanne Milby of La Salle. The entry fee is $25 on the day of the race. Milby said the local Alzheimer’s Group also is encouraging walkers to get involved. They’re welcome to walk the entire route — starting after the runners. Also, she is working on a shorter route for walkers who want to show support but not to walk the big loop. Check-in time will be 6:45 a.m., with the race start at 8 a.m. “The majority of the money raised by the Illinois Valley Alzheimer’s Group will be used locally. Your participation will directly assist area families in the form of caregiver training classes and speakers through the Caring Friends Illinois Valley Alzheimer’s Group support meetings. A small portion will fund national research efforts,” a press release from the local group emphasized. Milby said she is trying to get Jerry Peterson’s Sentimental Journey booked to play at the start/finish line while volunteers and supporters of the walkers and runners are waiting for the end of the event.
